This is fucking insane.
I’m not certain what Constitutional issues you’d find in this case. I think the real problem here is the “lame duck” legislative sessions where the party soon to be out of power still has the opportunity to legislate without consequence.
This effects both parties, as can be seen in the current Congress, the problem in NC is that the current makeup of the legislature there provides the Republicans with the uncommon ability to pass legislation with a veto proof majority.
Hopefully once the new NC legislature is sworn in they will take steps to unwind these egregious changes. But even then they’ll have to overcome the desire to rule over North Carolinians demonstrated by the Republicans who were willing to vote for the changes in the first place.
The new NCGA is still a Republican majority, albeit not a veto-proof majority. They aren’t unwinding shit. And when Tim Moore runs for Congress in 2026, he’ll bring his power-grabbing bullshit to DC as well. I’ve been living under his so-called leadership for years.
It may be fantasy to put our hopes in a Republican State Supreme Court, but in 2017 that court rejected virtually the same attempts to limit incoming the powers of the incoming Dem Governor.
And, on a related front, the NC Election Board rejected the efforts of the losing Repub Supreme Court candidate to toss 60,000 (!) votes (he lost by 754) on the ground the voters weren’t properly registered.
Then why can’t the fucking governor ignore their bullshit without consequence?
From some website I thought was OK.
I recall hearing your figure.
