Statutes honoring their service do not belong on land owned by The United States or on land owned by member States. Removing the Confederate Memorial is a sad commentary on the stupid thinking that permeates our society today: Everybody is a victim, who we must insure is never offended. The Civil War was fought between two geographic regions. The debatable causes are immaterial; all the combatants were Americans. The North won, and the South lost. Again, they were all Americans, and if some people are offended by memorials to the conflict, too bad. There is no Constitutional right to not be offended. The removal of these monuments and the renaming of military installations is a slap in the face to the South. Sadly some want to not only ignore history, but also to obliterate it. As is often said, “You can have your own opinions, but not your own facts!”

You put up monuments to celebrate or honor something. Celebrating a bunch of slaveowners and their sympathizers committing literal treason against the US Constitution is something that we should have never done, but the best we can do now is tear down those monuments to sin and prejudice.

And, to use your logic, if some people are offended by tearing down those memorials, too bad. No other country has erected numerous monuments to the losing side in a civil war and its time we stop doing the same here.
