The WI Dems need to get hold of a shit-ton of masks and pass them out as people begin t line up ant the polls.
And give them to all the poll workers, too.
If the GOP lege is going to make sure the election takes place because of the state supreme court election, then the Dems need to make sure it’s as safe as humanly possible—including having monitors to make sure the people in line stay 6 feet or more apart.
He should take a leaf out of the GOP playbook. Issue an order shutting down 90% of polling stations in provincial areas, citing some fictitious concern about Covid or electoral fraud, while at the same time deploying the National Guard to ensure polling place security in Milwaukee.
The GOP’s resistance to the changes may be related to a desire to keep turnout low, and thus favorable to Republicans, because a crucial state supreme court race is being decided Tuesday.
“May” be related to a desire to keep turnout low? It is absolutely and without a doubt their only motivation. Because we know that they know, when people vote, Republicans lose.
go vote. wear masks, make masks, do everything possible to stay safe. We were very proactive to go online and request mail-in absentee ballot and got them sent in with plenty of time to spare. Got our home-from-college kid to go register. I hope Dems were more pro-active in this regard than Rs. But if there was ever anything worth risking contact it would be voting. Hopefully all the brain-dead RW MFers will act like not needing a mask and shaking hands and getting too close will aggravate their insecurity complexes and they pay a higher price than prepared and protected Ds. And hope more of them stay home or find themselves unmotivated or scared this time around.
When Evers won last year, it was all over the news as to how the GOP legislature put near-illegal restrictions on the books as to what the Governor could do. When Walker was governor, the legislature was more than happy to let Walker do whatever he wanted and they just stood by, with Koch money making it very easy to turn a blind eye.
The voters in WI got smart about Walker (admittedly, after two terms) and kicked him to the curb.
Walker appointed that SC justice to the bench and there’s a move to get him out of there. As I mentioned elsewhere, there is also an anti-gerrymandering referendum on this ballot.
There’re a whole lot of reasons for Evers to get behind the delay. I’m already an absentee ballot voter, so mine is already filled out and gone, this point is moot with me.
Are you in Madison? Did you get your absentee ballot mailed to you like regular - bigger than letter paper, on card stock ? My parents requested a couple of weeks ago but haven’t received a ballot and got an email instead with a ballot attached. The email had a weirdly chatty tone that just doesn’t feel right
It was mailed USPS and came in an envelope and looked just like the normal ballot we shove in the machine when done filling ovals. I don’t recall exactly the size if it was bigger than 8.5 x 11 but I think it may have been slightly bigger. I also don’t recall if the paper weight was any greater than normal letter stock…I just asked my wife and she can’t swear it was bigger or heavier either. I would think you would be getting it from your township or county. I don’t live in Madison, about 40 miles north.
I remember something about anti-gerrymandering on my last ballot, but this most recent one did not have anything about that. It had a vote on Marcy’s law about victim rights.
Thanks - my parents did get it sorted out and received their ballots today. By email which is kinda weird and assumes the voter has a printer, which I think is less common than just having internet.
This email had the same informal greeting my parents complained about, but the rest was professional and signed by the county clerks’ office.
Not how they did things mumble years ago when I was requesting absentee ballots, but I feel more confident now that my parents really are talking to the right people (and relieved that they can fulfill their civic duty without exposing themselves to the virus unnecessarily)
