I’d modify this a bit: The “government is bad” people came of age in a media environment that didn’t compel them to propose solutions for making government better, and certainly didn’t encourage them to seek out and govern with Dems. Yelling at Dems is just easier and more fun, after all. The result is that we now have a party dominated by people who, in a fundamental sense, do not know how to do what they need to do.

Calling all non lightning-rods!
What if some Democrat or Republican, who is relatively uncontroversial and unheard of like Democrat Gerry Connolly of VA-11 or perhaps Republican Ken Calvert of CA-41, could step up? I don’t know; who least resembles a lightning rod in today’s climate? They should run on an explicit promise that the Senate’s complete budget will be brought to a floor vote, and that the Speaker’s resignation would be tendered once the budget is passed and the destructive shutdown-hostage bullshit has been safely shit-canned!
Would the temptation to go back to arguing about who leaves their dump in which bathroom, be enough to get a damned budget passed? So we don’t all have to suffer over deliberate tools’ preening over childish bullshit?

Setting grammar and PC aside, I think that the use of the male HE in this context is entirely appropriate, as it contrasts perfectly with SHE, the prior Speaker.
This never happened under HER Speakership.
