Whitmer: GOP Blowback In MI Leaves ‘Smaller Set Of Tools’ To Fight COVID Surge | Talking Points Memo

I think this is long-simmering anti-intellectualism come home to roost writ large. The Requblicans have relied on it for a very long time to get themselves elected. And they could honesty care less for how many of their own it’s killed. They know how to poorly educate more.

I figured it was a smaller set of tools that prompted these Michiganders to walk around with their artillery in the first place.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) on Sunday said that the backlash she received from Republicans Death Cultists in her state when she implemented coronavirus restrictions last year informed her opposition to imposing another lockdown, despite the state’s current COVID-19 surge.

Fixed!

Biden’s refusal to send more vaccine where it is most needed is idiotic.

I suppose there’s a numbers logic–the cold equations–to not increasing the dosages to Michigan. But one of the people here asking for it was Rep. Debbie Dingell. Back in 2016 she was trying to tell the Clinton campaign that they needed to show up in Michigan, that according to what she was hearing, things weren’t looking good. They ignored her.
This time it’s a public heath problem, not a political one, but Dingell’s ear is just as fine as it was in 2016. Things are happening that aren’t covered in spreadsheets, and someone needs to listen.

One way or another, I doubt it’ll be truly final.

9/11.

An event that traditionally pulls the country together, the republicans immediately seized upon it and used it as a cudgel to beat down anyone up opposed anything on their agenda. While also elevating a useless W. into being a 2 term President.

From the Patriot Act to ads run against Senators who had lost 3 limbs fighting for this country, accusing him of not being “patriotic enough”, to running us into a war, that 20 years later, we are still stuck in, republicans learned that there was no “bi partisan” or “non partisan” issues for them anymore.

Except they were. They just didn’t have the numbers in Congress (due in no small part to Americans rejecting them in the wake of the Great Depression) that they do now. But republicans were the ones who was steadfastly rejecting American involvement in WWII, and housing the elements that were actively advocating for buddying up to the Nazis.

LBJ would have had us gearing up the Arsenal of Democracy earlier and faster, and probably would have us entering the war, at least in Europe, a year or two sooner.

I live in Michigan, and there are places where vaccines are in short supply. But there are many other, mostly Republican areas where there are not enough people asking to be vaccinated. Before we ask for more vaccines to be diverted from other states, we need to reexamine how our existing vaccine supply is being distributed. Example, my brother in law lives in Kalamazoo, and got vaccinated in over-supplied Berrien County. My grandson, age 18, couldn’t get a vaccine in Ann Arbor, but easily got two shots at the Walmart in Toledo without waiting in line. His parents got their vaccinations at a rural Rite-Aid some two hours north of Ann Arbor. It would make much more sense to bring the vaccines to those areas with a limited supply than to force those who want to be vaccinated to drive two or more hours to get their shots.

Absolutely. And now once again they’re holding back, thinking that all the impure people will be killed off and they will somehow survive. They are a “wet market” inside our society—like bats and rodents and other bizarre animals that are hosting the virus and encouraging it to mutate into something that negates all the vaccine efforts. It makes you crazy just to think about it.

People need to lay off Whitmer already. There isn’t some magic key in the bottom of a wooden box that she’s just reluctant to use.

And people need to lay off Biden too. It’s completely untenable to think he’s going to take vaccines away from other Americans and send them to Michigan.

First time I heard that was in The Male Animal.
I should hate Ohio, but I can’t; they gave us James Thurber.

Did you mean fools?

Let the GQP exterminate themselves.

It was always there. Trump brought it out in the open.
