Whistleblower Docs Warn Of Risk Of ‘Serious Errors’ With Rushed 2020 Census | Talking Points Memo

Ummm, “legally dubious” is a very strange way to spell “explicitly unconstitutional”.

Good for the WhistleBlower Docs. We should recall that got nearly all the Oversight measures we were able to stage going into Impeachment.

And it will be borne out that we needed to Impeach Trump

So - looking at Texas - massively behind in response. How does that ‘benefit’ the GOP. Suppose they don’t respond, then they’re under-counted. Won’t that adversely affect the GOP representation?

Naaaay.

So there’s that.

We need to go to war with these people. Yesterday.

Just eyeballing it, it looks like a wash to me, except for the Valley/Corpus Christi and El Paso. The urban population centers look like they are all doing comparatively okay, and the rest of the deep red undercount is in Deep Red rural Texas. And I assure you, the GOP will be 100% happy to give up a House seat if the undercount gives them the opportunity to more effectively gerrymander the state, which this response rate would do by leaving out so many hispanics.

They’ll be giving up several of them.

I knew I was screwed, I didn’t think they’d get my folks too.

That ain’t gonna happen. Even with decreased response rates, the census is still picking up Texas’ massive population growth since 2010. It might make the difference between 3 additional seats and only 2, but that’s about it.

Just what Godfather Trump ordered.

We have entered a situation where the Republicans are regularly abusing and breaking laws. Not sure what can be done about it short of active protest including civil servants disobeying or evading ‘dubious’ orders. Congress issuing more subpoenas is pretty underwhelming at this point and lawsuits don’t seem much better; even if a judge is willing to issue an immediate order, Republicans evade its intent or fail to honor it altogether.

Hellooooo, lawsuits!
There’s a bunch of states, red and blue, that won’t sit for this.

Crimey, after that Mr Ed thread, I forgot what I wanted to post.

Trump’s legally dubious [??] request that the apportionment numbers — which determine the number of House seats each state gets — exclude undocumented immigrants.

Once again, beating a dead horse, the Constitution requires

Representatives and direct Taxes shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers, which shall be determined by adding to the whole Number of free Persons, including those bound to Service for a Term of Years, and excluding Indians not taxed, three fifths of all other Persons.

So except for Indians and 3/5 of “other persons”, immigrants are legally counted, as everyone was an immigrant back then. Indians and those 3/5 folks also now included.

Cons always like to manipulate census results and data. It’s was always for the same reason, cutting services and or funnelling funds to their supportive regional voters and a good chunk of the tax dollars collected, wasted.
