A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things.
In a 5-4 ruling just before midnight, the conservative majority on the Supreme Court dealt a massive blow to Roe v. Wade by refusing to block Texas’ anti-abortion law.
My guess is a number of red states will rush to pass identical laws; they won’t be able to resist the pressure, and may lack many figures in office who could think why they should. And then a large swathe of Real America will lack access to safe abortions and we’ll see some regret as the unintended but easily foreseen consequences start happening.
If in 2016 you said the parties were all the same, that Hillary was a “corporate” candidate, that Trump would hasten the necessary revolution, you own this. Not all of it. But a nice spacious piece of real estate in it. All you had to do was get off your self-satisfied, complacent ass and vote. Nice job.
Let’s see how successful Texas is at attracting businesses that want to hire progressive and creative women and men. You know, like the tech industry and other growing areas of the economy.
Most Texans, when polled, want access to abortion. As do most Americans. Yet Texas legislators, and SCOTUS, do this. So much for the will for the people.
Sigh. When push comes to shove they’ll go for places with low to non-existent taxes and near slave-labor pay for workers. Peak exploitive capitalism is what Texas is all about and if these kind corporations (I mean people?) are still there now, after all of Texas’ years of legal bullshit, why would they leave now?
