What's So Special?

Be interesting to watch Vivek and Elon picking strawberries for a week.

Thank you for that enlightenment.

I have a friend who was cured of cancer.

Thank you @philmore
I’ve been through cancer twice. Later one quite serious.

Thanks for the reminder. We did worse than a shitty job of selling it; we did no job of selling it. And shame on the Obama and Democratic supporters who couldn’t be bothered to show up in 2010 (and 2014).

Lemme think. Civil cases require a preponderance of the evidence. So between Woodward and Comer whose testimony is a jury apt to believe? Scratches head

We live in different professional worlds. In mine, a leader with strong social intelligence is required to move agendas through a large, complex system made up of thousands of individuals. At least we could go with an attempt at nuance (something in short supply here, not directed at you), between good politicians and bad politicians. In countries we admire, that name is not a pejorative. It may be something to contemplate.

I admit to not being as nuanced as I ought to be. However I will offer that chronic pain and an inability to get around to the extent that my dear Mrs darr must do the chores I used to shoulder inside and outside our house while I am stuck on the couch taking pressure off 3 damaged vertibrae makes one cranky… I hate being immoble… I hate being in pain. Luckily I am retired

Dar, it makes me sad all that you are going through. Sending healing vibes. Have no doubt I know you are so one of the good ones. I was too adversarial. I’m sorry. I guess I got triggered. One of the things I’ve learned about great leadership: they are all great politicians in the best sense of the word.

Another key conclusion in my own efforts to live agendas on behalf of kids who don’t have a lot: build from the exemplar down - not from any other vantage (average, worst).

it’s still kind of astounding to watch people eat the shit sandwich and agree with dumpster.

No worries at all @philmore
One of my joys was as a team my grad students and I created a device capable of looking at individual cells in the ovary in situ in a person. Soon to be done in a doctor’s office once training done and the FDA is happy. The deal is early detection. I can say from personal experience… cancer is not fun. I dealt with a squamous cell tumor in my left forearm in 2019. So far no recurrance. I enjoyed mentoring grad students and watching their exploring.

From msnbc…

Republicans sound eager to deny fire aid to Los Angeles

As wildfires continue to devastate Los Angeles, conservatives such as Charlie Kirk have gone on the record to suggest that Trump and the GOP should withhold federal aid to California.
… … … … …
May every one of their republican homes burn to the ground
Apparently republicans in California are hated by their brethren elsewhere. This shows the basic inhumanity of republicans

This is one very hot fire:

This is the Pierson Playhouse Theater 1988 and fully up to code. How hot does a fire have to be to melt structural steel? Note the surviving vegetation to the side.

It is odd how some vegitation survived near a 1000 degree fire

I would think the wind was channeled up thru a narrow corridor creating a blowtorch effect. A fast moving flow of oxygen wouldn’t do much to either side

Yes, I keep noticing that, too.:person_shrugging:t2:

I basically decided it must be kinda like tornado damage, where one side of a house is utterly destroyed and yet there are still place settings on the table (or something similar).
