What Will Pete Do? Buttigieg Is Reportedly Mulling An Endorsement | Talking Points Memo

When former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg announced the end of his presidential campaign Sunday, one question arose: Will he endorse former Vice President Joe Biden before 14 states weigh in on “Super Tuesday,” thus fundamentally changing the nature of the Democratic presidential contest?

The other also-rans need to do the same. I like Warren and Klobuchar, but they need to bow out now. Bloomberg should do the same, but I doubt if his ego will let him.

In California and Colorado mail in ballots have been out there for weeks. I have yet to turn in mine but will do so today. However, most of my friends have either mailed or dropped off their ballots so these last minute drop outs are irrelevant for many.

What Will Pete Do?

I hope he slept in today.

I suspect it would depend on whether Buttigieg wants a position in the next administration or is more interested in cementing his position in the party for a later run. He might go for both by endorsing Biden (no chance he gets a job in a Sanders admin) but everyone else’s guess is probably as good as mine.

My guess is that he does endorse Biden.

“Buttigieg and Biden have somewhat similar politics…”

He’d be a hell of an improvement over Mulva in the role of Biden’s White House chief of staff.

Whatever he does he better do it soon.

“Mulva?” I thought it was “Dolores?”

Wonder how many votes have already been cast in the Super Tuesday states. An endorsement doesn’t mean handing over the votes that have gone to the withdrawn candidate. Too bad.

Didn’t you know? This is the “establishment” rigging the nomination for Biden! That’s why Pete dropped out! Be resentful and angry, Bernie camp! Hate us more than you hate GOPers BECAUSE TRUMP SAID SO!!!

… blunt Sen. Bernie Sanders…

Come on now! He was smart enough to get elected to the Senate.

His large donors got together and told him to drop out, he spent the last few days trashing Bernie and will endorse Biden - exactly what he was instructed to do. Why else would anyone who spent all those millions drop out just a few days before Super Tuesday? It would not have cost him any more, and who knows?

I’m sure he’s looking for a reward position in the administration by proving he will be an obedient little puppet but he should beware of what happened to all those super delegates who thought their loyalty to Hillary would be rewarded.

The funny thing is Trump probably thinks it’s the Bernie camp that getting riled up when in fact it’s the Supporters of other candidates that invariably start the bomb throwing in the comments here…

Either way around it, in the future he will need the DNC so he will mind their preferences

Waaah? Trump will be as mad as the Bernie people if Bernie isn’t the nominee. Process that.

Yeah, I was in shock when I read that, because for the first time ever, I think trump is right. He’s always feared Biden as the candidate, but Russia’s big nightmare is Sanders. Sometimes something is so obvious even those as dense as t get it. FYI sniffit, we’ve been pissed for years, not because of anything t said (re: dems) but because of posts like yours (Bernie camp, excessive use of capital letters, lack of information, etc.)

There is enough BS to process here already thanks…

My, aren’t you a cynical one?

Sensible, results-oriented ex-candidate considers endorsing sensible, results-oriented candidate. Not shocking, but extremely welcomed by this primary voter.
