As mired in this mess as John Solomon was I can definitely see CNN offering him a contract to appear regularly on various panel shows. The ink would be drying already if it were revealed he’d lied in many of his articles and plagiarized them.

This all fine as far as it goes. It definitely increases the shame quotient for every Senator or member of Congress that votes against impeachment, but we shouldn’t deceive ourselves that it will move one voter. Indeed, if the actual tapes of the calls were released and Trump was heard directly demanding an investigation in exchange for aid, it still wouldn’t move a vote.
Nearly every GOPer in the country knows that Trump is dirty. They know he did exactly what he’s accused of doing. They. Do. Not. Care. Indeed, I think most like the idea that letting him get away with this bothers decent people.
So, let’s keep the pressure on, even as we are aware that it won’t change any minds. The best we can hope for is to harden the resolve of those who find this unacceptable and decrease, though not destroy, the enthusiasm of a few Trump voters.
Over the long haul we have to deal with the structural problems that are encouraging 40% of us to consider bribery and treason as defensible in the service of ideological goals.

Never made it to the point of impeachment. So the senate never has official role. Until there is an actual impeachment there are no official charges to even be investigated. Though they might guess. Senate under #MoscowMitch is busy coming up with alternate theories and nonsense to deflect attention. You can ver there’s a lot of GOP toadie action, but without even articles much impeachment mostly noise, denial and whining.

To be clear, the senate investigations with Nixon were real, but they fell under oversight, not impeachment. Constitution clearly states Impeachment is solely under the house. Senate intelligence has determined Russia interfered with 2016, counter to the Ukraine claims.

Had to go do a bit of digging, one of the earliest deaths in this whole saga (July 2017)… There’s a lot of blood on their hands. Everyone thinking that trump’s just a bumbling idiot would be well-served to note that, at a minumum, he’s surrounded himself with people who are willing to kill, and often.

My recollection is that Irvin’s was a select senate committee on campaign activities. On the House side, Rodino’s committee hearings (starring Rep. Barbara Jordan D-TX) voted out articles of impeachment. Those did not go to a vote on the House floor because GOP elders persuaded Nixon to resign first.
That is my recollection off the top of my head. Someone please correct and revise as needed.
