What Joe Kent and Candace Owens Are Really Up to in Their Critiques of the Iran War

They’re philapocalyptics.

Solidarity among the people in the streets! Let the belligerent billionaires and religious fanatics fight amongst themselves, preferably on another planet.

These are the fanatics who think the rape of children is okey-dokey as long as the rapist is wrapped in the vestments and the stink of incense.

Funny you should mention 1990. Working on a tech job in Tokyo in 1990, alone in the office on a Saturday, I heard a knock at the door. To my great surprise, it was Jehovah’s Witnesses. Might have been 1991, can’t remember. I’ll say this though – they have some good vegetatian recipes.

Have to disagree on both of those statements. Besides being a garden variety sociopath, Owens is an entertainer and a sharp businesswoman. Don’t know her net worth but I’ll bet she’s making a killing. Shocking and controversial pays very well these days.

The rejection of Collective Guilt (All Jews being held responsible for Crucifixion) only came about in

  1. I think it was a result of 2nd Vatican Council Nostra Aetate the declaration says they are very dear to God: “God does not take back the gifts He bestowed or the choice He made” (NA 4). Jews are not rejected or cursed by God because of the death of Jesus: neither all Jews then, nor any Jew today, can be blamed for the death of Jesus. The Church deplores all hatred and antisemitism." And the declaration ends with a condemnation of all forms of discrimination based on religion or ethnicity.[138]

Wish I’d had time to get popcorn before reading this piece by Posner. It led me to follow up at the Catholics for Catholics website. I had little idea of the extent of the hot mess that the xtian right has become. Here is one of their articles attacking Ted Cruz.

Last paragraph sums it up:

Critics of this anti-Catholic manifesto, endorsed by Senator Ted Cruz, are quick to point out that this latest attack on conservative dissenters seems to demonstrate further how influential Israeli government and lobbyists are within our own borders.

Yup, it’s those nefarious, conniving Jews, now in league with those despicable and dangerous anti-Catholic evangelical Protestant Christian Zionists.

Personally, I think there is a big difference between saying that trump is deeply subservient to Netanyahu (trump LOVES strongmen and wants to be one himself) and that trump was stupid enough to be influenced by Netanyahu’s war against Iran idea and, on the other hand, saying that the US gov’t and the Pentagon were deceived by a vast Israeli/Jewish cabal into going to war against Iran. Joe Kent is saying the latter, which, as Josh pointed out earlier this week, is deeply antisemitic and casts trump as an innocent victim of a vast Jewish conspiracy, which he is not.

Just wait until people start going to war over access to ever dwindling fresh water resources.

Yeah, Josh Marshall isn’t right on this. Netanyahu views Trump the same way Putin does - as a useful idiot. They are both obviously trying to manipulate Trump to their own benefit, while degrading the US. And – because Trump is an idiot – they are having an effect. They are three peas in a pod, with similar stature, worldviews and sketchy dealings trying to dominate each other (with fuckall consideration for the world and their people).

Netanyahu has a history of trying to strongarm American Presidents into doing what he wants. Here’s a quote from a 2015 TPM article

Netanyahu’s plan for a March 3 address to a joint meeting of Congress has further strained already tense ties between the U.S. and Israel. Congressional Republicans orchestrated Netanyahu’s visit without consulting the White House or State Department, a move the Obama administration blasted as a break in diplomatic protocol. Some Democratic lawmakers say they will boycott the speech.

U.S. officials believe Netanyahu’s trip to Washington is aimed primarily at derailing a nuclear deal with Iran, Obama’s signature foreign policy objective.

Of course, Netanyahu finally got his way when Trump pulled the US from the JCPOA in his first term. Now that bombs are flying, the Israeli military is taking advantage of that situation. (Similarly, Putin will stop selling info to Iran if the US abandons Ukraine … even more).

Two awful people taking advantage of an awful and demented third for their own benefit. One happens to be Jewish. That isn’t anti-semitism; that’s Bibi.

Israel and Russia both interfered in the 2016 US Presidential election because Hilary wasn’t going to fall for their BS.

In 2023/4, Bibi had zero incentive to not bomb tf out of Gaza after Hamas attacked. Brutal attacks on the Palestinians (1) halted the legal proceedings against him, (2) wrong-footed his political opponents by dirtying them up morally; (3) in the US, destabilized the Democrats such that that pillock Trump could regain power; and (4) putting targets on the diaspora, means more soldiers once they have to move to Israel to feel safe.

Political calculations are political calculations, limited only by the character and ethics of the political actor. Oh, and smarts. Trump doesn’t have that; his indefatigable, bullying persistence has allowed him to prevail despite his cognitive issues thus far. Putin apart from the one catastrophic miscalculation on Ukraine seems to be holding himself together. I hope I see what happens with Netanyahu.

They are fundamentally all the same person, pulling the same destructive bullshit in a desperate attempt to preserve their power and their lives. But I can’t criticize the one because he’s Jewish? That does violence to truth.

Unfortunately, the likelihood of antisemitism is hardwired into the myths of the New Testament. Feature not a bug over there.
