Not by me it isn’t. And Mary Badham was wonderful in that scene and all the others. Those kids are central to that film, because they were central to the story. Hell, by the time you’ve sat through the credits with a marble rolling through the bric-a-brac of a Depression-era child’s life, you’d know or intuit that much. Elmer Bernstein said when they gave it to him to score, he thought about it and realized that essentially it was a story about childhood.
