President Trump and the White House coronavirus task force will hold a briefing at 5 p.m. ET. Trump will likely respond to unemployment claims skyrocketing to a record 6.6 million in the last week ending on March 28, which doubles the amount of claims reported last week amid the COVID-19 outbreak.
I wouldn’t have the anxiety I have if someone real was in charge of the country. But having a mad king in the middle of the biggest crisis I’ve seen in my lifetime is just a hell of a lot to ask of people, you know?
On a scale of 0 to 100, with 0 meaning “Zero Responsibility” and 100 meaning “Complete Responsibility”, please estimate how much responsibility President Chaos Goblin will take for the current economic situation:

Edit to add: today I learned we can create polls in our responses. I expect to abuse this power and get kicked off of TPM within 30 days.
Yesterday morning I awoke from a dream where Jackson Browne was giving me a foot rub in a gymnasium full of bunk beds. I didn’t ask for the foot rub. I looked down and said, “Jackson Browne! Don’t you have Coronavirus?!”
I woke up and had to Google to make sure that he did have it.
That is weird - as weird as the dream I had. I was in a shopping center that was under construction. I went into one large space that was open for business but I don’t know what they were selling. I wandered around and bumped into a guy who was browsing. He turned out to be Matthew McConaughey. I have no idea why.
So, he’ll use this opportunity to either a) blame Obama/the media/China for the UE numbers or b) deny the data, gaslight, and attack reporters for asking such nasty questions. Or both.
The unemployment bonus should be paid to essential workers who aren’t unemployed, too. Particularly folks like restaurant take out, who’d be better off laid off, making more money unemployed than when working.
You know that ridiculously high number of new jobless claims? Have a look at this:
UNEMPLOYMENT UPDATE
The state has received 220,000 unemployment claims in the last three weeks, 20 times the normal amount. The Department of Labor continues to process claims.
There is a backlog of at least five or six weeks to process unemployment claims, Lamont said Thursday.
“My goal is to clear that backlog over two or three weeks,” the governor said.
Unemployment claims processors are working overtime, said Melissa McCaw, Secretary of the Office of Policy and Management.
“There is a SWAT time at this time if you will looking at all options for the commissioner to increase staffing there,” McCaw said.
State officials are looking throughout the government for any former Department of Labor employees or others with backgrounds in unemployment claims processing.
This is just for the State of Connecticut:
No one will be asking about this at the rally, or anything else relevant. What deflection will they put up today??? Which nets will broadcast the rally?
