We'll Be Hearing About This Michigan Senate Race for Years to Come

Welcome to the fray.

LOL! This has got to be Stevens’ burner account, but if it’s not, go watch videos of her speaking publicly about her past “accomplishments” if you want to see a massive narcissist.

From another state, Mallory McMorrow looked great. Why did she fail to catch on? Just curious.

I also don’t live in Michigan, so my understanding is based on news I have read. Anyway, the articles I read suggested that she ran as a middle of the road, establishment Democrat and pretty much nobody was excited by her message.

Was shocked to read last night that Tony Evers is overreacting to her win by calling back a candidate who had already withdrawn. With so many Dem party leaders backing Stevens and whoever can beat Hong(at this point no one) in Wis it’s really revealing how entrenched to last years ideas the party has drifted into. Exposure of what until now was only accusations by young activists is going to hit the status quo hard.

I hitchhiked north to Alaska from Alpena on US 23 in ‘74 just as Paul Simon was creating “Nothing but the dead and the dying back in my little town”. Never looked back but ended up in Red Alaska but damn it’s a bewitchingly beautiful place to settle. We have Mary Peltola running a good race against dotard psychophant Sullivan in this years Senate race. And a bipartisan legislature standing firm against dotardian Gov..

After 10 years of nothing but Trump and wall to wall hate, It is good to see a thread about Democrats and what they stand for.

Wow. That’s just embarrassing from her. She couldn’t even pretend an answer.
So many Jewish Americans—myself included—are done with the obligatory allegiance to Israel that we were indoctrinated with growing up. AIPAC and its beneficiaries are doing serious damage to the U.S.

I am in MI, big McMorrow supporter. Not thrilled with the other two, though will vote for whomever in Nov.

I think the DNC picked Stevens bc the outgoing Dem Senators Peters and Stabenow insisted to Schumer. So that money came to her.

And El Sayed has worked with Sanders in the past, who came early and started pushing. So progressive donors flocked to him.

McMorrow didn’t have a lane, alas.

I think Stevens’ has run a terrible campaign, all she talks about is how much she supports Israel and GM. There’s not a lot of solid proposals, and her AIPAC funding makes her a no for me. But she does have a base in Detroit that she’s worked on. But she’s a pretty bad public speaker, McMorrow is better.

I appreciate Abdul’s positions - his critique of funding Israel, calls to abolish ICE, Medicare for all - are aligned with mine.

One problem for Nov is that there’s extreme dislike on each candidate’s side for the other, and both Stevens and Abdul have fanned those flames. She’s pushed the narrative he’s anti semitic, or implied it, he’s used a lot of sexist dog whistles. His supporters see him as a fighter ready to speak truth to power, I see him as inexperienced arrogant blowhard who I’ll probably vote for on Tuesday but without enthusiasm.

Again, I have a hard time seeing either of them healing the rift by November, this is going to be close.

When Rodriguez withdrew, Crowley was there instantly. I suspect he knew in advance and was ready. He had endorsed her when he quit. Barnes wasn’t going to get anyone’s backing from the party. After he lost his senate bid, he pretty much disappeared. And although Barnes claimed he stepped down because ‘another person’ couldn’t be caught, the fact that the Milwaukee Journal story came out about allegations of his behavior towards some women right afterwards would probably have tanked him anyway, regardless of whether they were true or his denials.

Odd, that’s awfully similar to what happened to Diana DiGette in CO-01.

Ms. Peltola will make a fine Senator.

Entrenched plus simply not accepting—or willing to allow—the choice of the voters. And if that behavior continues, it could be the death knell of the Democratic Party. I know that sounds hyperbolic, but the trend is definitely that left-leaning voters are increasing, and going more left.

I think she’s worse, can’t believe how incompetent she is as a campaigner and how brazen she is with corporate and AIPAC funding sources. But I also worry about hubris with El-Sayed and, yes, a large number of doctors (particularly male) have observable narcissistic tendencies.

I don’t know if anyone could bear the second-hand cringe watching Haley Stevens ‘being a real Michigander’.

Found the clip!

I think this adds a nice dimension to the current discussion regarding the ‘DSA vs. Dem centrist’ fight the media has been obsessing over: Centrists Are Not More "Electable"

Great point—this is really more of the story than the ‘DSA vs. Centrist Dems’ narrative the media is running with—@indivisible.org is calling out Dems who are stalling any forward progress and the Democratic establishment doesn’t like it.
