I live and vote in northern Michigan. Stevens is a hard candidate to swallow (AIPAC, institutionalism), but I think someone with a last name of Sayed would have a hard time winning the state, sad to say.

“Everyone in America understands you want to blame all of your problems on Jewish Americans.”
What she’s implying is that Jews in the US have dual loyalty and that opposition to Israel or Zionism is anti-Semitic. Sure, significant numbers of American Jews are all in on Israel’s actions, many are conflicted because of growing up in in a world in the shadow of the Holocaust and look at Israel as a haven, while other - increasingly younger - Jews are totally horrified by the shear freakishness of the revisionist Zionism that’s taken over the country. Stevens’ position is a mirror image of the most extreme pro-Palestinian position that wants to hold all Jews - in Israel ans in the diaspora - responsible for these crimes. Neither position is acceptable.

I do like Abdul El-Sayed quite a bit—I’ve seen him address the issue of antisemitism directly and he has also pushed for an end of aid to Egypt (where his parents emigrated from) as well. It’s hard to overstate the amount of racism inherent in America and by extension, the republican party.
That said, if someone of President Obama’s talents can take on the republican establishment during a disastrous run for them, I think El-Sayed may be able to pull this off. To Kate’s point, however, I wish it were not in such a critical purple state, but we take what we can get. If he soundly beats Stevens, he’s the best person to take on Rodgers.
While Rodgers may have less ammo against Stevens with her being a white centrist, she’d be in a less better position to seize on the discontent brought about by republican policies. El-Sayed can just run on offense while Rodgers tries to keep up.

Did you read the article and how familiar are you with Michigan cities?
Note
the simmering resentment between many Black voters and Arab American ones stemming from El-Sayed’s public endorsement of the “uncommitted” movement during the 2024 primaries. He has struggled to win over Black voters, a vulnerability Stevens is intent on exploiting.
And Rogers will be also.
This may explain why Stevens is more apt to beat Rogers than El Sayed is according Race to the WH.
Note also that there is continuing resentment from Democratic activists from the same cause. El Sayed seems to expect that he can prevail in the General by the same calls for Democratic unity and loyalty that did not work with him.

We should have been anticipating the Michigan race since Biden was elected. Harris couldn’t overcome her ties with the old, old men of the beltway Democratic party. A new generation has grown tired of AIPAC and the aging Institutional Democrats that have dominated the Democratic Party since Bill Clinton. All Americans want a Party that has grown tired of the lack of imagination and forward thinking brought to us by Chuck Schumer and his tired ilk. I don’t know about you but I am sick of leaders with a cold war mentality who blindly back Bibi Netanyhu and his genocide. Democrats in particular feel betrayed by the elderly octogenarian leadership of the old time Democratic party.
Wasn’t it part of Harris losing MI because she chose policies that people with the last name Sayed disagreed with?
I get your point, but it should be a problem for all sides in a big tent - We may just be used to ignoring people’s needs when demands are inconvenient
