HarriS raised $250M sinCE SundaY afTERnoon! Don’t feaR feLLOW MAGA’s, Vote.org says in a 48 hour period after Biden announced his exit from the 2024 race, it saw a roughly 700% increase in daily new voter registrations, totaling over 38,500 in that period… TRUMP voters (18-34) accounted for 83% of those registrations.
I probably underestimated how Kamala Harris would personally embody the the themes of her campaign in ways that are particularly effective where Biden wasn’t in drawing contrasts with Trump.
Nowhere is this more true than in talking about reversing the damage of the Dobbs decision on abortion rights. I never got the impression that Biden was comfortable talking about this issue due to his Catholic religion. He was capable of a speech saying women’s rights should be respected but he seldom used the word abortion, as I recall.
Harris is the complete opposite, able to forcefully talk about women’s reproductive rights. This is good, we need this to beat the R’s going into the election. Especially now that Trump has made the idiotic move of picking hardline anti-abortionist Vance as his running mate. Trump likes to dance around the issue, saying it’s just a states rights thing, but Kamala can puncture that easily.
Especially since women are the gateway into the largest number of voters…regardless of race or political leanings. I know Whitmer might be OFF the table, but if you wanted to aim for the largest demo…women be it.
I don’t know his policy history that well, but the military/astronaut status could help. Is he relatable in the rust belt swing states?
On gun control, I think we have to be careful and not overplay our hand. Don’t want to get into a Beto-like “yes, we’re taking your guns away” situation.
Again I don’t know how Kelly has talked about this, but I’d rather see a full-court press on better gun control measures after winning the election if we can take back the House and hold the Senate, than making the issue front and center in the campaign. I think at this point, every voter knows the Dems are more likely to get anything done on gun control than the R’s.
P.S. My opinion on that would change if polling shows there is strong support for tougher gun control laws in the swing states, I just don’t know if that’s true.
Been thinking about the disproportionate cost of protecting FPOTUS since Jan '21. He charges the Secret Service for accommodation at his residences (which are open to the public), for travel on his plane, for motorcades wherever he goes, for public speaking events. All required, but if I were the Secret Service, I would resent pleas for MORE security at outdoor events, after he announced his candidacy and began campaigning two years before the election. Doesn’t excuse the lapses in Butler, but geez.
In all seriousness, I think he needs his regular fix; it helps him to avoid acknowledging the reality of his situation.
In a way, this is a win-win for us; if he rallies, he continues to show the world just how eff’ed up his head is; if he doesn’t rally, he probably spirals into despair and eats himself into a stroke or MI.
That’s the point though, isn’t it? Why else emphasize the WWF vibe at the convention. I admit it was odd that there were nothing but heels, people drop money and come for the heels. In retrospect you’d have to say that the GOP has been catering to this form of entertainment since the Tea baggers.
Have to agree. Kelly’s time will come, and he will serve well, but 2024 is not the time to gamble a strong Senate seat… I know, the Governor will select the replacement and he has two years left in his term, so the seat itself is not at immediate risk, but he’s a good Senator.
