“And so I urge my colleagues to please, please take what happened on January 6 seriously.”
Some do, some don’t.

Mike is still in charge of the Democratic Party. Obviously he’s as self-effacing as ever.
Lobbyists for humanity showing up.
I am so sorry for your family. That was so tragic and a stain on our country.
Thank you for citing the truth. People who believe in honesty and equality should always stand together.
You’re right, doubt they know many of the faces and since they wanted to “get” Pence, shouldn’t some of the Rethugs been concerned?
I remember seeing the clip at the beginning of lock down when a Dem was trying to pass out masks to the Rethugs not wearing them. They seemed to think that was amusing. Guess they thought no one would be after them, when they could have been mistaken for a Dem.
Many of her colleagues are white supremacists. Some of them are even trying to sneak guns past metal detectors.
Rs are worried that the mob would be after them if they vote in a way that might displease ex-impotus.
In her ten minutes yesterday, the thing that struck me (again) is how very not bright she is. She explained that, after becoming “curious” about politics (thanks to her new prophet, Donald Trump), she began to read widely on the Internet and began to sincerely believe, well, a lot of nonsense.
Whereas what she believes now is … probably … still a lot of nonsense.
And yet here we are. Elections have consequences.
One of the amused was my Rep Perry who has gone completely off the rails.
My belief is he did not want a mask in case the mob broke in and he would be recognized as one of their own.
Yes. Thanks again and again.
Which “some” of the BDS sentiment is anti-semitism?
Hear, hear! That’s what people don’t get. I like to think I know most members of Congress’ faces pretty well, but the truth is that I really don’t know the quieter ones, the backbenchers. Does anyone think that if, say, Rep. Mace or Meijer were captured by the mob that the mob would’ve known who they were? Do folks think they would’ve stopped and taken the time to figure out if they were Dems or Reps? As blood-thirsty as those terrorists were, they’d have snatched up anyone they could’ve gotten their hands on and that includes family members, aides, and members themselves. The fact that they may even have been ardent Trump supporters would not have stopped that mob unless maybe someone recognized them. Maybe.
Empathy, compassion, and self-reflection are not part of the Republican playbook.
Considering the source of this, but it also seems to be spot on. When parody truth are the same thing.
Yes, I’ve listened carefully to her several expressions of regret.
Can’t say I’m convinced.
Maybe a good idea, especially if you’re talking about things you “imagine”:
I certainly can imagine some (some!) BDS supporters doing so not out of a legitimate and specific policy disagreement, but out of a dislike of Israel and Jews.
Trumpism is mostly vengance-based…their voters and pols are not the kind who respond to entreaties from those they consider enemies or inferiors.
If fact, it’s more fun to reject the plea…and, in that sense, it’s a positive vibe for them.
This is powerful stuff – and I hope for more of it. As mendacious and cowardly as the vast majority of Republican elected officials are these days, I don’t believe that the majority of the American people are behind them. (Self-identified Republicans – maybe. But remember, a not-insignificant number of Rs are dropping their affiliation.)The average person is horrified by the MTGs out there and their violent, whackadoo beliefs. They want no part of it. The more legislators speak out – as human beings, as their authentic selves – I think it lands. I think it shifts the dynamic.
You have to hate to Trump.
Republicans obviously have not taken Melanie’s Be Best campaign seriously? WE can do better but Republicans gave up even trying when Obama was elected. It was a race to the bottom between Trump and the GOP Establishment to see who would get their first.
