Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) on Thursday night made an emotional plea to her fellow lawmakers to take the deadly Capitol insurrection that ex-President Donald Trump incited on January 6 seriously, recounting the hate she’s had to face as one of the first Muslims to be elected to Congress.
How as an elderly white Jewish American can I not weep alongside this young lady for the fear and violence that the right-wing promotes. Yet all my neo-Nazi-coddling Republican friends tell me that I should hate Muslims and Dems.
One of my also elderly close cousins was among those slaughtered in the Tree of Life synagogue massacre in Pittsburgh. This was the worst attack on Jewish people since the European settlement of North America began. It wasn’t Muslims who pulled the trigger. It was a Trump-inspired amateur neo-Nazi. He was screaming out lies he heard from the President of the United States and House Minority Leader McCarthy about the Central American caravan and about Jewish support for it. Republicans are lying racist scum who coddle neo-Nazi Jew killers…just as they coddle the racist anti-Semite violence-promoting Marjorie Greene.
A noble sentiment, which will go completely unheeded by the GQP
We must do better in Michigan to rid ourselves of these violent, bigoted, racist militia members.
The death threats and attacks are a direct result of four years of encouragement by Fox and the White House, and by the FBI allowing fascist organizations to operate freely. J Edgar would approve.
I watched all the Dem speakers after the vote to get rid of the Greene House gasbag. About 6 lawmakers called upon by AOC mostly to talk about their experience on the 6th and to thank Capitol Police for their efforts to keep them safe. A lot of the speeches were pretty moving, but Tlaib’s was really touching to see her in absolute tears of distress yet she continued to talk.

The vote yesterday showed that there were only 11 Republicans in the House.

Maybe House leadership would do us all a favor a tell us how many death threats members of Congress receive each year, just start with the one that the FBI sat up and took notice of for a start. I know that this may sound weird, but after yesterday listening to MTG pathetic performance in trying to explain how 48-12 months ago, and even less, that she now doesn’t think that maybe it was a wise decision to put out that ad. That it’s not her fault other people allowed her to believe, not think but believe that Q was a truth telling prophet.
MTG, Biggs, Cawthorn, and maybe Brooks spoke at the Trump rally on 01/06, and I have yet to hear what evidence that they believed then has now been proven false? That they now suffered that trauma of an angry mob searching for them through out the Capitol. Which has now shown them the error of their beliefs.
That 199 includes Liz Cheney. It seems that her “brave stance” only goes so far.
Just wait until her press conference. Ought to be a doozy.
When the jackoffs on the other side of the aisle start whining “it wasn’t that bad,” please remind them that the violent mob wasn’t after THEM.

This breaks my heart. What breaks my HEAD is the media to play up the ‘cat fight’ between AOC and Nancy Mace as if another white Trumpster can understand or speak to these ladies experiences. It is really amazing.
One of the speakers in the House last night talked about having counselors present in the Capitol that anyone working there could use 24/7. It wasn’t divulged how many had used the help, but it was clear there were a lot of traumatized people in the Capitol. Were none of the Rethugs totally freaked and suffering from what happened there. The callousness of these people to stand by their party when the most horrendous breaching of the Capitol in our lifetimes is just sickening. What will it take for them to show some humanity?
Who knows what the future might bring. But it sure feels like a lot of Republicans are way more worried about the past than they are the future.
They are almost to a person voting to side on the wrong side of history in order to appease a very, very fickle voter base.
I can’t ever remember a party fully embracing a person that went from having the Presidency and full control of the Senate and House to losing all 3 in 4 years. I can’t remember a party hitching it’s future to a losing POTUS candidate like this period.
Carter, Mondale, Dukakis, Bush 41, Dole, Gore, Kerry, McCain, Romney, Clinton - how many of these folks stayed as the leader of the party once they lost? This Trump worship is literally embracing a losing strategy.

If they do not know your face and they catch you, you are gone.
Some them looked jovial during the incident. This may be what is freaking everyone out. I know what my view would be seeing that environment and being in the middle of it.
