Watch Live: Senate Republicans Begin Rush Confirmation Of Barrett

He could but it would be unwise. Democrats are not going to pack the court period, they lack the gonads. But if the GOP does it now, then they might get the spine to do it.

Susan Collins is uncertain which is saying she is concerned with a furrowed brow but she will eventually vote to confirm. You know she will.

BREAKING: Senator Susan Collins has doubts. "At this time I'm not certain that Judge Amy Cony Barrett is the right person to replace Justice Ginsburg. I hope that my colleagues in the Judiciary Committee will be able to alleviate my doubts."

Cruz talks but he does not walk. He blathers on that 100 percent want to protect pre-existing conditions. The Democrats have protected pre-existing conditions. The Republicans have unsuccessfully sought to destroy that protection. They have intoned ‘replacement’ and done.nothing sane about it.

It occurred to me that if SCOTUS really does overturn ACA, Democrats will have no choice but to start expanding Medicare, first to SOME, and then to ALL. Has a nice ring to it.

I just learned–through a Bernie Sanders interview no less–that Biden’s Health plan includes dropping Medicare eligibility to 60. Why aren’t they talking about this constantly? This would be VERY popular. I know many people who would retire or change jobs if that was the law now.

Wise or unwise aren’t part of McConnell’s modus operandi. Amassing power is what motivates him. I vaguely remember reading that one of Barretts writings revealed that she also believed that the power to do certain things was justification enough for doing it. Ethics and morals be damned when raw power to install an evangelical agenda are on the table.

White House physician’s office cleared Lee to testify 7 days after confirmed positive - without a mask!?!?! Saying it was 10 days after onset of symptoms blah, blah, blah.

Every dem should have gotten up and walked out right then.

I doubt Breyer is motivated by money. He’s a good Justice but probably wants to retire as soon as a Democratic president is seated.

The number of seats on SCOTUS is set by law, not senatorial prerogative. So Mitch would have to get Nancy’s house to pass the bill.

It’s good to have at least one thing to not worry about

One of the remarkable aspects of the rich and powerful people is that God’s will is always aligned with their worldly best interests. In some cases the Lord even wants them to collect the money from the faithful and spend it for Him.

There are a few things that we need to know about Judge Barrett’s faith: Under what, if any, circumstances would she herself judge that she is entitle to lie or to prevaricate. If the demands of American law conflict not with her personal preferences but with her religious beliefs will she commit to following the law?

It’s a fine line but since neither of those queries implicate what those beliefs are but rather the effect on her own behaviour which we are entitled to press her on they are not a religious test.

Lindsey.Graham is such a slime. He purports to respect his colleagues …but not enough to get Covid tested. Trump didn’t think he was going to catch Covid either.

Given that my $50 million/yr. retirement bribe won’t be enacted until Joe Biden is the president and the Senate is back in control, I don’t think we have to worry about him taking the money under Trump.

Susan Collins is toast either way. She should for once vote her true beliefs. If she believes that women have the right to choose then vote against the Handmaiden, that simple.

Is Barrett qualified? She’s willing to contemplate mass murder by kicking Americans off their healthcare. So no.

The legal pretext argument will probably have to be different, but don’t imagine for a minute that it’s not on the list of progress to undo.

Along with the rest of the Great Society. And after that, the New Deal.

How many rich and powerful people are going to die? How much money are they going to save? If plebeians die that is because it is God’s will, he could prevent it but chose not. Besides there is no shortage of plebeians in this country and plenty more that want to come in ACA or not.

It needs the Senate and House to pass, and the president’s signature.

Okay thanks for that explanation. I figured the House must have some kind of control over the process or the bastard would have done it already.

I’m at work and can’t watch. Can anyone fill me in on the following:

Are any Dems asking her about why she accepted a nomination from the most corrupt (amoral, dishonest, etc.) president in our country’s history, and what does she think it says about her own morals and ethics that she did?
Is every single Dem reminding the viewers (and his constituents) that Lindsay Graham is a demonstrabole liar whose word cannot be trusted?

Given the foregone conclusion of this charade, this hearing should be about condemning Trump and forcing Lindsay and other Republicans out of their seats.

She shrugs.

Never forget that the Spanish Inquisition was the Catholic Church was shoving their orthodoxy down the throats of “heretics” – torture, murder, you name it, all in the name of “God”.

The Inquisition still lives on in Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and that Pope Benedict XVI was a Prefect of the CDF (yes, that one, and we all know how forward-thinking he was…). They have changed its face but they never disbanded it.

Behind the true, everyday faith of millions of people there still lurks a lot of evil in the Church organization and not all of it is pedophile priests. Most of it has to do with greed and power. The policy of celibacy was not something written in a holy scripture somewhere, it was started a thousand years ago to make sure that priests and bishops and cardinals and popes could not bequeath their vast (and generally questionably acquired) wealth to their children – by default it all went to the Church.
