In a major loss for Democrats on Friday, the Virginia state Supreme Court rejected, in a 4-3 decision, the state’s recently approved redistricting proposal, which could have given Democrats four additional congressional seats, improving their chances of taking control of the U.S. House this year. The proposal, which was introduced as a way to offset…
Oh, for fuck sake.
And name the POS GOP partisan hacks prostituting themselves in judges robes.
GOP appointed Judge Jack S. “Chip” Hurley Jr.
Vote for Robespierre and Guillotine in 2028
FTFS! You know what that means!!
Elections are not going to fix anything. Ever. We are WAAAAAAY past that point.
It’d be nice to know what Article XII section 1 says.
Seems like the Virginia state Supreme Court is invested in keeping the deck chairs in tidy rows as the Titantic is sinking.
While the court sings “Nearer, my God, to Thee.”
That’s about the worst news of the day (just kidding, there’s always something much worse, no matter what you think is the worst). I guess that at this point the best way to retake the House is pure, unadulterated outrage among Democrats and independents everywhere. And Democrats should not be afraid to turn the volume up to 11 on that.
No one is coming to save us. Not the fucking courts, not the legal system, not the military, not common sense, not the democrats, no one. So when are you all going to stop crossing your fingers hoping for the best. Many of us said this years ago, but the laziness, cronyism, corporation corruption, brainwashing and the AIPAC rot is so deep in the democratic party that there is nothing to fight with. I have been saying the same thing for years - 2026 is 81 years after the end of WW2, which was 81 years after the end of the Civil War, which was 78 years after the end of the American Revolution. The fight is ours. Time to get your asses off the fucking couch and fight.
Rules only apply to the firefighters, not the arsonists, Example #1,301,247.
Here’s what I say. Do it anyway. Fuck the court. Redraw the fucking maps, and tell the fucking fascists to go fucking pound sand. What are they going to do? The Fat Child Rapist doesn’t care about consequences, because there aren’t any. Redraw the fucking maps and fuck them. If they don’t like it, we can discuss it over the 2d Amendment.
Rules only apply if we follow them. if the right won’t follow the rules what kind of dickless cucks are we? Redraw the fucking maps anyway.
Been saying the exact same thing for 10 fucking years. Watch out for the outrage from the tiresome geriatric corporate dems on this site, feverishly suckling at AIPAC’s teat…
I get the anger. Really, I do. I feel the same way. But, starting weeks ago, when I first read that the Republicans were going to argue in court that there was a (Virginia) constitutional flaw in the process, I was going uh oh. If ever there was a chance for the Republicans to win this particular battle, this was it. And here we are. Rules are rules. Work to win the Virginia districts, anyway, and get the necessary redistricting done in as many other states as possible. Time to move on, no time for crying.
The Red states are gerrymandering like mad because they assert that Callais overrules all their existing state laws and constitutional requirements that mandate impartial redistricting. Somebody should sue them about that interpretation. If that interpretation holds, then Virginia’s supreme court decision is null and void; Callais overturns it. Conversely, if that interpretation is shot down, that forces the red states to reverse their redistricting frenzy.
I have a simple question; can this decision not be appealed? I know it would be pretty useless to put it before the Fascist Five, but still…this should not be the last word on the subject.
And that is it. We just blew past the final offramp to secession, civil war and genocide. Putin is losing in Donbas but winning in the United States.
Oooh…the keyboard revolutionary speaks! Why aren’t you out “fighting” instead of wasting your time blabbing endlessly in comments sections?
Spare us the endless, empty, tedious lectures given from the comfort of your couch. Unless you’re just a troll, in which case, carry on.
What’s the makeup of this court? Are its justices elected or appointed? IOW can we highlight corruption or overt partisanship in this decision, like we’ve done with Alito’s recent ruling?
Virginia is quite blue already and, given how unpopular Republicans are this year, I doubt this will make much of a difference.
