Except the one that might actually work, threatening to directly join conflict in defense of Ukraine, even if with only something like air support.
So, Status Quo then…
Did I miss something here? Is Palin claiming illness now?
And that, weirdly, is where both US and Russian interests overlap: to prevent European chaos and the rise of a European hegemon. NATO’s public goal was to stop the USSR, its implicit goal was to keep Europe (Germany/France) weak so that they couldn’t start yet another global conflict.
I’ll believe it when I see it. Sorry, but how can you believe her when we know she’s been a liar all her life (to steal and modify an old Vaudeville song)?
Story that she has tested positive for Covid.
There was a great interview on a recent Pod Save the World episode with the former Prime minister of Ukraine talking about this. His point of view was that, beyond Putin’s belief that Ukraine is part of Russia, he fears any democracy in any state that abuts Russia, because it is a direct threat to his power in Russia. Any neighboring state with a successful democracy could empower those pushing for democracy within Russia. So he can’t allow Ukraine to be a successful example for that. He is also infecting Ukraine with the same type of poisonous social media campaigns that have worked so well to undermine democracy here in the US. So he’s fighting this with his whole array of tricks and threats. They also made the point during the interview that beyond Ukraine, all the other neighboring states are also in danger of the same aggression… so it’s not just Ukraine, they are just the first on the list for Putin.
I’m putting a link to the podcast below, hope it works? the interview is not until the last segment, it starts at about 70:10
ETA: The little media player seems to be glitchy if you try to play it in this comment window, but if you click on the episode title it will open in a new page, and it seems to work better that way and also allows you to jump to the relevant part.
Covid pos.
Covid.
Sort of good news I suppose. More evidence of just how zombified the Fourth Estate truly is, isn’t exactly great news though.
As a Virginian, I unfortunately agree with you. When you hand power to pieces of shit, the place is going to smell like shit.
If this is the future peo0ple want, they will have to live with the smell. All I can do is try to stay away from it.
The flip side is that Russian risk analysis would game that out and be a little worried about making Kyiv seem like a viable target for occupation. what do they have up their sleeve? Can they make the path to Kyiv a highway of tears?
The more this escalates, the greater the risk to the Russians. NATO is treating the Ukraine as a proxy ally (not committing troops or planes to the Ukraine, but neighbouring countries). This means the Russians become multi-vector targets once the shooting starts.
The Russian military has to be growing increasingly concerned of strikes from extra-territorial origins.
WAIT!
That was Dr. Evil!!!
It’s horrible no matter which way you cut it, but it’s somehow much, much worse when you know there is a good likelihood it could have been prevented.
So sorry for all in the family.
Damn. So sorry to hear this.
Putin is loving this. A war on ice since 2015 and he’s got us chasing our tails about Transnistria. Reposting for emphasis.
Well well well…
NEW YORK, Jan 24 (Reuters) - Sarah Palin, the 2008 Republican U.S. vice presidential candidate and former Alaska governor, has tested positive for the coronavirus, as she had been set to begin a defamation trial against The New York Times on Monday.
Palin’s positive test was announced by U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff in Manhattan, who is presiding over the case.
“She is of course unvaccinated,” the judge said, referring to Palin.
… … … … … …
Okey Dokey then…
This could get interesting. (checks pop corn supplies)
Forget Beijing, the real Olympics are underway–the Fascist Olympics! They’re competing with each other to see who’s the fascistest of them all and Trump’s hair apparent (not a typo).
Btw, nice move, firing a top lawyer without cause and for clearly political retribution. This will not end well for him or his boss.
I think that we should put US mitary assets in and around bases in Ukraine. Assets that would be destroyed in any Russian attack.
Knowing US personnel would be killed should be enough to keep Putin from the incursion.
Yes, I’m suggesting US personnel as human shields.
We can do this without threatening military action, because it will be implied by virtue of it being clear we would defend ourselves.
