True. FB has no checks on its platform, and its algorithms actually encourage users to seek out more extremist material, which seems like the perfect recipe for quickly assembling a vicious, unstoppable, dangerous hate group. Worse than a virus.

FB takes no responsibility for the mayhem its platform promotes, because doing the right thing would cut into their profits. Truly evil.

If you havenā€™t already seen it, I highly recommend The Social Dilemma (Netflix). Several social media execs are interviewed, and through excellent interview probing, they reveal the evolution of social media networks into a kind of Frankenstein that is now doing way more harm than good.

Thereā€™s a contrived subplot involving innocent people getting caught up in hate speech and thatā€™s a little corny, but the rest of it is an eye-opener.

I pointed out to an uncle once when he was raving about an attack on Elizabeth Warren that the story was debunked and his response was, ā€œIā€™ll need to look into that, because I want to believe itā€. Thatā€™s the problem. He wanted it to be true.
