Starting to get the queasies here in Maricopa County. I do not trust our county recorder Justin Heap

Justin Heap is an American politician and Republican who has served as Recorder of Maricopa County since 2025. He is a former member of the Arizona House of Representatives, having to represented the 10th district from 2023 to 2025.[1] He was a member of the Arizona Freedom Caucus.[1]

Political career

Arizona House of Representatives

In 2022, Heap and Barbara Parker were unchallenged in the Republican primary for the 10th district if the Arizona House of Representatives. They went on to defeat Democratic nominee Helen Hunter in the general election.[2] Heap’s father, Ralph Heap, succeeded him in the Arizona House of Representatives.[3]

Maricopa County Recorder

In 2024, Heap decided to run for Maricopa County Recorder, challenging and beating incumbent and fellow Republican Stephen Richer. He went on to win the general election.

Lawsuit against Maricopa County Board of Supervisors

In June 2025, Maricopa County Recorder Justin Heap filed a lawsuit against the Board of Supervisors, seeking to regain control over election-related IT, staffing, and resources. Supported by America First Legal, the suit challenged a shared services agreement that restricted the Recorder’s authority over voter registration systems and facility access.[4] In April 2026, an Arizona judge ruled in favor of Heap.[5][6] County supervisors voted to challenge the ruling.[7]

For those who don’t know, Governor Doug Ducey stacked the AZ Supreme Court with RW ideologues by expanding the court and naming all of the new justices - just one of the great legacies he left us.

I was just notified my ballot will be mailed out October 7th. Justin Heap is a Freedom Caucus America First RW tool, and things could get ugly here very quickly. Our senators are in place, but we have golem Andy Biggs running for governor and I am praying daily that he will not be bought into the office, but the billionaires are coming to dump millions into any race that matters and this one really matters

And it’s corollary, “No one shall notice”.

So she wasn’t fired, but she has hired a lawyer to sue them (or somebody?) because she wasn’t fired?

“As Pope Leo XIV emphasized, we believe it is appropriate to favor a formulation that simultaneously implies both the harm inflicted on nature and the failure to recognize, or even the rejection, of the Creator’s plan, which entails entrusting to human beings the stewardship and care of our common home,” the document says.

Seen on Bluesky:
a central tenet of the reasoning is the need to care for “our common home,” i.e. you are morally obligated to think about the other people who also live here.

I heard my cue, but I do not have any stage direction.

I think they have shown us they don’t actually have to make a ruling to muck everything up. Timing and standing are the new ways to say “screw the constitution” without actually saying “screw the Constitution”.

What took them so long? He showed actual humanity and moral integrity in his effort to bring a case against a rogue ICE agent. It was shocking because I didn’t think there were any federal prosecutors like that left.

There are a number videos online about processing and distribution centers. Here’s one. It’s 12 years old so a little out of date, but not much. The centers, and the entire systems of which they are the nodes, are just amazing. Plenty of humans at work just in moving loads around and performing chores at the machines, not to mention the people who maintain and repair the machines and the software, so there’s certainly room for human error even before certifying mail happens. What’s impressive is how little error occurs. And the machines! Wow! A lot to maintain, and things can certainly go wrong with them. The computer systems that connect the stages in the process of sorting must be highly tuned. Any introduction of a new stages could easily screw things up – a long beta-testing phase would be needed. Gotta add that the people working in these centers – well, I’m surprised more don’t “go postal.” Bartleby’s “I prefer not to” also comes to mind. (@darr)

There’s also this very funny video, amazing in its own way:

To be fair, it is 100% true that all the problems in the world stem from the fact that we can speak and understand what each other is saying lol

They were quite ubiquitous in many communities up until the 1980’s. They were famous for their 8 o’clock coffee where the grinders were at the end of the checkout counters. What did them in after being the Walmart of their era after 140 years was getting to large for themselves by acquiring other chains like Pathmark.
