Ukrainian Officials Open To New Probes | Talking Points Memo

Trump has already decided what has happened, as do his supporters. He has told Ukraine in no uncertain terms that he expects them to produce the evidence to support his assertions no matter how they get it.

It is too late for this to help Trump. And it reinforces the charge that Trump is once again soliciting foreign interference in a US election.

This seems most likely. It’s how they kept him at bay through September, nodding yes to investigations but doing nothing about it, postponing the “announcement” until the whistleblower blew up the whole shameful extortion scheme.

Anyone watching trump over the last 3 years knows that he is always vague about timelines, always promising to do things off in the future - two weeks, 6 months, “very soon now.” All the Ukrainians have to do is use his own language to con him the way he cons everyone else.

I’d like to think Americans would see this desperate ploy for what it is. Regrettably, I’m not so convinced.

So the comedian could get the last laugh? Now, that would be funny.

The Ukrainians can tell Trump they don’t want to announce their investigation now and take attention away from the big reveal of his beautiful healthcare plan.

How about a probe of Infrastructure Weak?

Are we there yet?

I for one, am sick and tired of our outsourcing of probes to the Ukrainians. What’s wrong with good old made-in-the-USA probes? The probe deficit is alarming and something needs to be done!

Quite true! But the Ukrainians have figured out how Trump can be bought (as the Russians have long known) and they are all too willing to “deal.”

Of course, this is precisely why Trump’s sloppy attempt at bribery is so dangerous.

This assumes Trump holds all the power in the relationship, and he doesn’t. Ukraine needs to get through 2020 in the continual conflict with Russia, and that probably means more military aide. That aide is appropriated in Congress, that has been very supportive up til now.

The last thing the Ukrainian need to do, is piss off Congress by siding with Trump in a politically-based move. Especially since Trump will now be gun-shy about holding up aid again (at least until he’s acquitted in the Senate trial, and that will take a while).

I’m pretty sure the actual decision-makers in Ukraine know how this works, and the article is just quoting lower-level people trying to stir up trouble.

Their offense has been kinda limp and flaccid lately…

This is Ukraine proclaiming they are willing to interfere in a US election. If Dems win they will have to seriously reconsider the types and amount of support the US is willing to give to this corrupt country.

Trump will never be friendly to Ukraine. He’s on Putin’s side. They are just trying to keep Republicans from being openly hostile.

So you are playing directly into Putin’s hand. I can’t understand why any thinking person would be angry with the Ukrainians. They are trying to survive not save American democracy.

Good luck trying to get even a stick or dime from Nancy Pelosi after they do.
