TX State Rep Insulted In Recording Forecasts Doom For The Speaker

When we were doing campus tours two years ago, we went to Texas A&M (I mean, we’re in Houston - it’s practically a legal obligation). My daughter walked out saying, “Oh HELL no, mom…they’re a cult!” She was 17 but I can still say out of the mouths of babes

Ha!

Don’t tell many of my colleagues, but your daughter is right. They make this strange noise (whoop!) whenever someone mentions Texas A&M.

Well, that’s disturbing. So much for my theory, but what I don’t get is why the rightwingers are against the tape’s release.

Its pretty clear the State GOP is having some serious issues heading into the 2020 campaign. The flurry of Fed Representatives heading for the exit door is a good indication. This tape floating around isn’t helping any of that, and may in fact be the root cause of much of it.

In short, releasing it publicly will fuel Democratic campaigns, and cause massive infighting within the state GOP ranks. Neither of those are things they want heading into 2020.

Because to release it would be a violation of their right to free speech?

Which of these is the odd man out? Louie Gohmert, Wen Ho Lee, or Lyle Lovett?

Exactly.

The big question is how will the Democrats react to this Republican docu-drama? Maybe the NYTs could jump in…

Oh, I don’t know, there’s the secretary of state scheming to cut from the voter rolls all texan naturalized citizens of the past 20 years, and he tried it before he was confirmed, got caught, and it cost him his job. But he didn’t go to jail, because apparently disenfranchising 50,000 citizens isn’t a crime.

Lyle flunked out before he got contaminated mentally.

Well, the Governor of Puerto Rico resigned because 899 pages of his private chats were released. So, maybe. I don’t see how freedom of speech plays into this. There might be a privacy argument. But I do not see this as a freedom of speech issue as much.

Nor do I.

I was just kidding, reaching for the most absurd argument I could think of, in the sure knowledge that the Republicans are weighing it seriously!
