On Tuesday night, Twitter announced that it was suspending accounts peddling the QAnon conspiracy theory that violated the multi-account rule or are coordinating abuse against individuals.
Yesterday driving home from work I heard an interviewer on NPR ask a hospital employee who they were voting for in November. She said Trump because he was a businessman and that’s what this country needs right now. And twice mentioned that fake news was making the president look bad about the covid thing.
The crazy is out there. Always has been. Now it is fed and coordinated with players intent on keeping the GOP in control. At least they are out there loud and proud and we know who they are.
Free speech. Bullshit. Twitter is a private company, but with responsibility not to let people yell fire in a crowded theatre, for example.
If these Qanon clowns want to set up a website and spout their crap, I’d think they have plenty of web site hosts that would sell them a URL and allow them to post web pages. They can also stand on a wooden box in the town square and yell their theories.
As for Facebook, all of its protestations and ostensible moves to prevent lies and links to total bullshit, and total distractions. What Facebook really fears, and won’t mention, of course, is that the people will realize that their business model is flawed: they can do just fine without using our data to micro-target ads.
It’s about damn time. Unstable people listen to this and go off on violent rampages about it. And these wingnuts are the ones who proclaim themselves the possessors of common sense, see, unlike us libtard moon calves.
Little-known fact; not everything published on the Internet is true. Shocking, I know…still, bravo to Twitter for kicking these nuts off their platform. I eagerly await erroneous claims of “censorship.”
Some folks in one of my FB groups are utterly terrified of the whole Q hoax. I don’t get it. What’s to be terrified of? The entire theory blows apart the minute Biden is sworn in. If Biden loses, it’s game over with or without Q. The things they believe are so far out of anything even remotely credible to even mainstream Republicans that I find it really hard to take seriously. When your conspiracy theory centers around the idea that Oprah, Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Beyonce, Wanda Sykes, Pink, Katy Perry, and a host of others are all pedophiles, it doesn’t have legs with anyone even remotely sane.
Within a week, I had two people tell me they like trump because he did what he promised: built a wall on the Mexican border.
I said the border is 1,954 miles long (give or take) and trump had, in three years, built three miles of new wall (source US Customs and Border Patrol.) At a mile a year, the wall will take another 1,951 years (give or take.)
Neither of them believed me and were sure that wall had been built.
