Tulsa Mayor Declares Curfew Around Site Of Trump Rally | Talking Points Memo

You’re quite optimistic. Just like happened in D.C., NYC and elsewhere, it was the mere presence of the curfew that led the police to attack peaceful protesters, which in turn led to fires and looting.

“I have received information from the Tulsa Police Department and other law enforcement agencies that shows that individuals from organized groups who have been involved in destructive and violent behavior in other States are planning to travel to the City of Tulsa for purposes of causing unrest in and around the rally,” Bynum said in his order, which was posted on the police department’s Facebook and Twitter pages.

No shit. That would be the president and his supporters.

Saw on CBS News last night scenes of Trump supporters already camped out on the streets in Tulsa. Not a single one wore a mask, naturally. And the doors open at 3 on Saturday, but the rally doesn’t begin until 9. So there will be 19,000 people crowded in there, 95% of them with no masks, for about 8 hours. Talk about a petri dish.

Here’s the thing: camped out for days without washing in mid-June on Tulsa sidewalks, then cooped up in a building, and from their appearance pretty scruffy and unsavory already: if COVID-19 doesn’t kill 'em, the stench certainly will.

Sometimes it’s in reading the transcripts that you really see how fragmented his thinking is. I was talking with friends the other day about Bill Clinton’s ability to hear a question, look down and bite his lip for about four seconds, and then look up and come out with an answer a high-end editor wouldn’t find a word to change in. I was an editor myself, at the time, and I thought it was staggering. He could do that regular-guy thing but he was ferociously smart with a fine, fine mind. And now this. I ask you.

Wait… so tonight they’re removing the people who have been waiting in line all week in chairs and tents to get in? How is that going to work?

We will find out tonight.

I actually feel sorry for the local police who will have to wade into the viral soup created by the likely seas of Dotard’s supporters.

Time to stock up on popcorn and find a Tulsa TV station live feed.

Gonna be a hot time in Tulsa tonight…

I saw an article somewhere, might have been on the local news web site, that the ones camping in line are taking turns watching each others’ gear and place in line, while they go home to shower, eat, etc. Lots of those people are from the surrounding suburbs so home is close.

The Police Unions love Donnie so they can ask for volunteers.

But you are right, the people who have to work the event will be at as much risk as the those who attend.

I loved to watch Bill’s hands when he spoke. I have taken many photos of his hands when he used to come down here and stump for Dem candidates post presidency. His hands are so very graceful for a man and he uses them with great aplomb when he works a crowd he’s speaking to.

One pass with a helo should do it.

Good luck getting the MAGA crowd to leave.

Look - they think they are victimized if someone tells them to wear a mask, or that they can’t kill black people, or gay people,or Muslims, or the environment, or rock and roll, or fun, or hope, or decency, or the Popeyes chicken sandwich.

Of course not. They’re going to leave the fine white folks alone, will only be using the tear gas and batons and rubber bullets on the black protesters and their allies.

Or an A-10…

If the pep rally starts at 9:00 PM on Saturday and the curfew around the BOK Center runs from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday through Sunday, what do the faithful do after the rally ends? Will the Tulsa Police Department and other law enforcement agencies arrest everyone of them as soon as they hit the exit?

The campaign could provide actual tickets to the people who have been camping out, so that they could retain their spots in the ship of fools. But my guess is the campaign would love to be able to claim victimization here.

It’s a shame he tattooed a dirty joke on his forehead because he’s a hell of a talented guy and would have been remembered differently if he’d been a bit more sensible.

Answering my own question, the local ABC News affiliate says this about the people in line:

According to police, they are moving the people who are camped out around the BOK Center. The only people allowed in the area are those who work or live there.

Looking forward to how THAT turns out…

Possibly accustomed to the stench??
