I’m a Somerville boy. My parents sold their first house to a Tufts University fraternity in 1956. The Medford hillside campus stretched to our West Somerville street. I grew up on Tufts beautiful campus, acted, as a kid, at the Tufts Arena Theater.

I did my undergrad at Tufts, loved it, and still have ties to the school. I’ve been following this story in The Tufts Daily (the outstanding independent student newspaper) for the last week. I hope when these jokers are found that they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

My alma mater…great place where they do a lot to make it a warm and accepting, diverse community…was “woke” before it was a thing. They’ll power through this and won’t let it slow down the mission.

It sure does. My father and his parents used the N word frequently. My grandmother worked as a house cleaner who was Jewish. Nana bragged about stealing from her. I realized I had nothing in common with most of the relatives.

Irish white here. Some years ago, the question dawned on me, is there any positive content to whiteness? So far, nothing. Everything I positively identify with is covered by American, of Irish extraction, northern Californian, son of my parents, and so on. Maybe if I keep “unpacking” I’ll find something worthwhile somewhere way down at the bottom.

Bombs about " Unpacking Whiteness". The whole idea is so stupid it should evoke laughter not threats. I object to using “unpack” for anything other than luggage.
How about “deprogrammed whiteness” ? You know…The way folks believe in white supremacy propaganda which claims there are races of people & a hierarchy of races with melanin deficient mutants being at top of hierarchy & thus claiming some superiority over melanin producing individuals?
That is FAR better than unpacking plus it makes clear that it’s not luggage but rather white supremacy entitlement that is being debunked.

The threats started the same day this article was posted to a right wing “campus watch” org by a student at BYU:
On the group’s About page they state:
