Well that is the thing. They either stopped or went in another direction, thinking they had to be all in on attacking Biden as he maintained adamantly that he was staying put.
But he fooled them. I know I was surprised when he decided to step back. If it was going to happen, I had expected it much later if decline was the reason or if support had faded that seriously. Biden has had the voter while the political class was negative. I would be going with the voter. What a pivot.
Short term thinking on the part of Trump’s advisors versus maintaining concurrent strategies just in case. As @thebishop said, “arrogance”. Of which Trump world has ample supply.
Biden spoofed the heck out of them. I have to wonder if it was intentional along with the timing after the attempt on Trump. Sucked all the air out of the room for Trump in the process.

Sure, but, more to the point: They are not good at their jobs. Recall that the “co-chair” of what used to be called the RNC is Trump’s daughter-in-law who, and I’m granting her the benefit of the doubt here, knows precisely fsck all about running a national campaign. Trump’s current campaign managers are alleged to have some idea how to run a campaign, and yet… they did not see this coming, even though they’ve been pushing for this outcome for the past year. Dumber than a wet cardboard box full of very, very stupid gravel. I’m talking gravel that has lead poisoning. DUMB.

Trump, obviously, like President Biden, is getting on in years. So this election was always less about the candidates and more like Team Democracy versus Team Fascism. Maybe some are now coming to that realization.
