The 64 researchers will together receive $504-million in federal funding over eight years as the first group of Eddie Goldenberg Research Chairs of Canada, the centrepiece of the Canada Global Impact+ Research Talent Initiative, a $1.7-billion recruiting blitz the Liberals launched late last year.
The chairs hail from 13 different countries, but most are leaving institutions in the U.S., including prestigious universities such as Harvard, Stanford, Duke and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
This is an amazing development. Consider the time and effort involved on the part of the individual scientist to decide to emigrate and take his/her world-class research with them, then pick a compatible destination country and academic home. Then there’s the effort on the part of the host nation (there are many of them, not just Canada) to recruit and welcome leading scientists. 50+ is a staggering loss to the US.

Just a reminder that the government’s insistence that it is too late to stop the process of meddling with mail in voting fits Tim Snyder’s observation that governments planning mass killing introduce exceptions to law, and continue doing so to normalize the lawlessness. Don’t get distracted from the end game.

The GOP did not break in 2025. It did not break in 2017. It did not even break in 2012. It broke in 1993: Since 1993 and Newt Gingrich’s takeover of the Republican Party and Bob Dole’s decision that he would rather go along with trying 100% to portray Bill Clinton as a failed president rather than work to make America a better place. By 2012 the only new thing was that the pretense of reasonableness had become impossible to sustain.

I have to go run a couple errands this morning and I was reading this article and it bothered me and at the same time had me scratching my head.
The woman does seem to be having a mental health crisis, a little caring approach might be in order.
On the other hand her response to being told you voted for this is to say that because some Democrats were mean to me I’ll never vote for Democrats.
Fundamentally one of the commenters was right on the money.
“So Trump and this administration has destroyed her farm and she’s mad at Democrats for pointing it out to her?” asked Scott Henry, a content creator with 1.3 million followers on Instagram.
That is the problem. They can say they’ll never vote for a Democrat, but would they have in the first place? I think we’re saying the wrong things to these people. Instead of saying we told you so let’s ask this question: “Democrats warned you that the Republicans would do this, aside from these warnings what could have changed your mind?”
Or we could adopt the MAGA playbook when they get caught being rude. “It’s a joke,” or my current favorite, “It’s a false flag operation to make us look bad.”

Well, Swedes are weird, at least my family is. The other thing to remember is that Sweden and Norway had and still have Fascist groups. There’s growing frustration with refugees, and anti-immigrant violence. Some of that is the human state, some of that is money spent by misanthropes.

Cuz it’s not “unconstitutional” for the President to issue an Executive Order, which only applies to the executive branch. It is unlawful, however, because the President has nothing to do with the administration of elections. The states and Congress, period. He still thinks he was elected king.
