Trump's Long, Not Terribly Convincing Con On Abortion Policy Is Over

Well, this is nice …

“The Justice Department has ordered an immediate halt to all new civil rights cases or investigations — and signaled that it might back out of Biden-era agreements with police departments that engaged in discrimination or violence, according to two internal memos sent to staff on Wednesday.”

“The president has nominated Harmeet K. Dhillon, a conservative lawyer from California, to run the Civil Rights Division, one of the most important, and politically polarizing, units in the department. Ms. Dhillon, who will be responsible for voting rights cases if confirmed by the Senate, was a top figure in the state Republican Party, where she supported Mr. Trump’s false claims of voter fraud.”

At some point the ill informed, the misinformed and the deliberately uninformed voters will begin wondering if they can abort their votes.

We’ll have to tell them, “No, you have to carry this to term.”

Why do you assume the Pope is a Christian?

The frequent nods to white supremacism are pretty obvious. And if Amanda Marcotte is right, even the press has noticed!

I find it risible on the part of TPM at this late date that they would refer to “voters’ intelligence”. Um, did you see what the country elected?

A spectacularly brazen and obvious con-man, rapist, liar, and fool.

Really? I mean, really?

Well, if you want to get technical, as Nietzsche (I think) said: “There was only ever one Christian and he died on the cross 2000 years ago.” Pope Francis is an imperfect Christian, but from what I can gather, he does attempt to follow the teachings of Christ and his church as well as he can. I don’t agree with his views on the role of women in the church, the LGBTQ community, abortion, to name a few, but I’m not a Roman Catholic so my viewpoint counts for nothing here. Nevertheless, nothing in my knowledge of him and his works leads me to believe that he’s a false Christian. I don’t know what else to tell you.

I think that pardoning the violent insurrectionists jumped the shark in a major way. Opposition to those asinine pardons was running about 70%. We need to keep this in front of American voters. One way is to write letters to the editor of local newspapers expressing your consternation, confusion bafflement that a supposed pro police guy could do such an anti law enforcement thing. Alaska is a very conservative state. I truly believe that a lot of Alaskan GOPers still read the Anchorage Daily News and are just as rattled by this anti law enforcement move as I am. Wrote a letter expressing my consternation Monday and it was published today. It’s one thing I as an individual can do to keep the atrocities of this demented pig in front of the public.

Old news. The Protestant evangelical wing of the Republican party has always hated the Catholics. Not sufficiently onboard with the White Supremacist thing, too many brown people in those churches.

The song is about New York City. For more than you ever wanted to know: Stefanik’s upstate NY district, which borders on Canada and Vermont, encompasses “the North Country” and is one of the geographically largest in the Eastern U.S. It’s nearly all parks (including the heavenly Adirondack Park), recreation areas and vacation resorts (including Lake Placid, the site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics), farms, lakes and rivers, and lots of beautiful but economically depressed countryside. There is a slew of state prisons (don’t know about federal) as well as Fort Drum. Nearly all the municipalities are very small towns; the two largest have populations of 24,000 and 20,000. The population has a high percentage of seniors and military veterans. Prisons, Ft. Drum, and the service industry for tourists sustain the economy. Btw, Stefanik did not grow up in the North Country. She was born in Albany, grew up there or in its suburbs, attended an elite private school in Albany, went to Harvard, then went straight from college to D.C., and won her Congressional seat in 2013 when her long-serving predecessor retired. Talk about an opportunist creature of the Beltway.

The NY 21st also includes some suburbs and exurbs of Albany, and the most recent redistricting extended the district somewhat further into those areas which, these days, are blue or purple trending blue.

Well, there are quite a few Fundies who would deny it. Rome is the Whore of Babylon, don’cha know, and the Pope is the Antichrist, and all of us statue-worshipping idolatrous Papishers are going straight to the hot place.

Hmmm. True, the Catholics are very concerned about the crack down on immigrants but that is in part because those people are a big piece of their base that they need to grow. They got rid of the idea of Limbo for babies (and pets) that died because they could not grow the church in Africa.

But on the other side, there is JD Vance, Alito, project 2025 people. Catholics.

Quite confusing. (Raised Catholic, not practicing).

If they want to be on the right side of this Ok by me but motives are important. Remember Pope Francis thought Kamala was just as evil as Trump.
