Also, as far as I’m concerned, TPM should just write a headline everyday that says TRUMP TAKES A BOWEL MOVEMENT. Basically its the same thing as TRUMP TWEETS…
It’s just part of his morning routine and daily constitution, and no, not that kind of Constitution. That kind of Constitution is what he wipes his ass with.
Yesterday I talked about Hump Day…the day even the Doubters know that Trump is finished. I will go further.
Trump is finished.
He just knows how to run his mouth the Roy Cohn Way.
Never acknowledge wrongdoing
Always Fight Back, no matter what
Always lie
Always win**
** Like Adolf Hitler “won” when he sent 15-year-old Hitler Youth kids out to face Russian Tanks with one-shot bazooka-like weapons called panzerfausts…
And then crowing that he had “achieved the military initiative”
My mother is one of those in the general public, and she is absolutely confused (she’s also in her mid-80’s). Trump’s approach of non-stop lying about everything and saturating the public discourse with those lies absolutely befuddles her. She can hear what Mueller says. She can hear what the Democrats say. She can hear what I say. But she still doesn’t necessarily believe it, because of what Trump says. She doesn’t understand how and why any person (especially a President) would lie…so sadly, she believes that Trump is not lying.
This all seems to be part of a PR plan hatched before the hearing even began. Even before the testimony was over, the administration, FoxNews and the rest of the right wing media were declaring that this is great for Trump and a disaster for the Dems. They all stayed on message–even Trump–even when he was yelling about the “Fake News” (his anger is a tell here–he knows what Mueller said). I’m sure there was communication between Fox and the administration leading up to the hearing–the response was just too fast and too coordinated. I’m sure there is a story here.
Because that is NOT the message that is being blasted to the minions.
The message blasted to the minions is pretty much what Nancy said at the end of it all. Business as usual - still thinking about it but not really moving forward. That’s what they’re hearing. It’s what we’re all hearing.
All of what you accurately report is really kind of being ignored on both sides. I can imagine Nadler and Schiff are pretty frustrated right now.
@zd123, and the Dems had no PR plan before or after the hearings. All of it was laid out clear as glass. Still no movement. And we wonder why we can’t move the needle.
As many who support impeachment hearings have pointed out, in early 1973, Gallup polling showed that only 19 percent of Americans supported removing President Richard M. Nixon. By the summer of 1974, when Nixon resigned, support had climbed to the high 50s — which illustrates that on impeachment, public opinion can be moved in a big way, including, presumably, on Trump.
Now I’m left hoping Pelosi et al. are actually playing 3D Chess. She’ll announce impeachment hearings in the fall which will drag out well into late summer, and then dump all the facts onto the Senate where [fingers crossed] it will sink 90% of the Rethugliklans running for reelection.
I have a feeling this is going to have a run similar to when the Mueller Report first came out. As I recall, Trump immediately claimed victory, saying the report showed no collusion, no obstruction, but as the days progressed, we learned how devastating the report actually was. I think when people focus on what Schaffer said in particular, we’ll see some serious questions raised, if the media is on their game.
And that’s the piece I have no confidence in. How can they have a game when no one is feeding them the playbook from this side of the issue? The Right is already out there in full throat claiming victory. Where is the Left and Center?
As David Faris pointed out in his article, Mueller was even not clear in his exchange with Buck if it was Trump he was referring to.
Rep. Buck: “Could you charge the president with a crime after he left office?”
Mueller: “Yes.”
Buck: “You believe that you could charge the president of the United States with obstruction of justice after he left office?”
Mueller: “Yes.”
If Buck had specified if President Trump could be indicted and charged after leaving office, I think his answer would’ve been less clear. Or outside his purview.
" Michael Cohen got to watch Robert Mueller from the big house — and he didn’t like what he saw.
The disgraced ex-fixer for President Trump said in a jailhouse message that the special counsel blew a huge chance to hold the president accountable for his misdeeds.
“Mr. Mueller today had the world stage to answer questions regarding obstruction of justice and witness tampering. Sadly, his reluctance just continues to leave the debate open and those responsible free from prosecution … for the moment,” he said in a message reported by CNN.
“The American people deserve more!” he added.
Cohen, who is facing three years in prison for his role in Trump’s hush money scheme to keep Stormy Daniels quiet, didn’t explain how he got to watch the much-anticipated hearing at his Otisville, New York federal prison.
Like many Americans, he apparently hoped Mueller would put some meat on the bones of his 400-plus page report detailing Trump’s efforts to undermine the probe into Russian interference in the 2016 elections.
Mueller’s halting testimony also failed to explain key questions like how Donald Trump Jr. got off scot free despite apparently soliciting dirt on Hillary Clinton from Russian operatives.
Cohen urged lawmakers to reach out if they want a more complete version of Trump’s antics than Mueller was willing to offer.
“If our elected officials want more information or clarification they know where to find me,” Cohen wrote."
I think that is the long game thought from the beginning.
unless something quicker and definite lines up his removal.
like having the senate agree that enough is enough.
That’s already a problem. Its interesting that before I went to bed last night I watched John Heilmann say that Mueller had sucked the life out of impeachment and there were less people in the Dem. caucus after the hearing than before that wanted to move forward with it.
I just watched Matt Gaetz and Ayman Mohyeldin argue over the same damn thing, with Gaetz basically restating Heilmann’s point that Mueller sucked the air out of impeachment against tRump and he was laughing, gleeful and making a fool of himself as usual. I’m revolted by Gaetz, but these pukes do come out to fight and make noise even when their side doesn’t have any kind of cogent argument. They get air time to say nonsense. And Heilmann last night basically because he’s a journo said the same disappointing line providing the wingnuts with even more talking points…not based on substance, but on performance value.
Where are the elected Dems this morning? I actually hope they get an earful at their town halls over break. They need to move on holding tRump accountable as soon as they get back with some kind of impeachment inquiry. No ifs, ands or buts. I flip back and forth how and when that should happen but after yesterday, they should have had their hair on fire over his testimony, even with what little they elicited from Mueller because in fact, it was quite substantial. If only the Dems knew how to capitalize on what he actually acknowledged we’d all feel better going forward. Seems like that’s missing in any concerted way today however.
Mueller’s testimony cannot be a one and done matter with months in between the next witness if there ever is one. Also, all witnesses need to be made to come before the public. None of this behind closed doors shenanigans going forward to get them to come.
