It’s the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the President decides who gets it. It was established by JFK through executive order. Rescinding it with another EO would open the door to court challenges, and would encourage the next Republican President to rescind whatever medals Biden decides to award. Bad idea.

But this proposed bill did not come to a vote.
So, yes, it can be rescinded. But I suppose if Nunes wants to hang it on the wall, or wear it at parties with Sebastian Gorka (who loves medals), I suppose nobody ought to care, really, But those who really worked very hard to achieve something, and were recognized with this medal, are being cheated by the cheapening of this award.

The MOF lost it’s significance when it was awarded to Rush Limbaugh. When Biden takes office it should be retired and a NEW medal created with very significant qualifications that would prevent the perversion of this sacred confirmation of American exceptionalism. Also, Biden Administration should look into if a medal can be revoked. There is no precedent to revoke but who says one can’t be created. Rush Limbaugh is one of the most repugnant and divisive individuals that ever lived in the US and so are Nunes & any other tRump cultist. Lying and carrying water for the tRump is not a qualification.
