Trump Tells Reporters They ‘Ought To Release’ Whistleblower ID

Trump (and thus Republicans) have sustained a burning interest in the whistleblower’s identity despite his growing irrelevance to the impeachment inquiry.

They are trying to pull a Steel Dossier, focusing on minor inaccuracies from a source that’s become irrelevant to the issue at hand.

Also, after the character assassination from Trump and right-wing media (looking at you Fox News) against Lt Col Vindman, I don’t blame the whistleblower wanting to stay anonymous.

If he has a library, it will consist of all of his EO’s and a gift shop (or,perhaps more appropriately, grift shop).
It will also be completely unfair that he will have to follow federal financing rules for building it. Otherwise it would be the biggest, most beautiful library ever.

I love the Catch-22.

You can’t use anything released by someone who is against Trump, because it must be biased.

And anyone who testifies or blows the whistle is by definition against Trump, because the loyal ones would keep their mouths shut.

Let’s not kid ourselves, playing the victim plays well. People eat it up.

It serves many purposes.

They ought to release your brain, you idiot. It’s obviously being held hostage somewhere.

It would be nice for someone in the know to expound upon precisely what the rights of a whistleblower are, especially in terms of their right to have people in government take all reasonable measures to hide their identity, if such a right even exists. And if it does, what are the provisions for imposing sanctions upon those that violate those rights? Is it a crime to reveal the name of a whistleblower? Is it a crime to provide the name of a whistleblower to another, for the purpose of having that person or organization reveal it? If Trump or anyone else in possession of the whistleblower’s name in fact has no legal exposure for revealing it, what’s stopping them? It can’t be due to any sense of ethics or morals, so what is it?

Think he’s worn that one out and certainly no one here thinks it plays well. :grinning:

Trump saying “written answers are unacceptable” from the whistleblower is just so f*cking gloriously hypocritical.

I think it could get to the kneeling in prayer with Pompeo at 2:30am stage.

They can both kneel and pray till daybreak but God’s not listening. I think Pompeo use to be a pastor? And the only thing Trump would be praying for is the name of the WB. Plus the name of the guy with the sawzall cutting a hole in his Wall.

Witness intimidation is a federal crime and is impeachable. This should be added to the impeachment list of particulars.

Trump is like Scrooge in “A Christmas Carol”; he is building his chain up ever say he is “president”.

Naw, the Right already has been passing around the name of who they think it is, and he’s just pissed off that the mainstream media (even Fox) has refused to run with it.

Most everybody in DC knows who the whistleblower is. Trump Knows. Even Louie Gohmert says he knows the identity.

“Everyone knows who he is. CNN knows. The Washington Post knows. The New York Times knows. Congress knows. The White House knows. Even the president knows who he is,” said Fred Fleitz, a former CIA analyst and national security adviser to Trump, who has fielded dozens of calls from the media.

He wants the name released because he figures he can then muddy his name and cast doubts about his true motives:
This article supposedly names him and even posts a picture.

Trump supporters blame the conspiracy of silence on a “corrupt” and "biased” media trying to protect the whistleblower from justified scrutiny of his political motives.

IOW, they can call him a Democrat with biased motives.

Trump going after the whistleblower is akin to if Nixon had gone after Frank Wills.

“What business was it of his there was tape on the latch bolt on the door?! Why was he even on that floor? This whole investigation started with a nosy Never-Nixoner!! If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit!!”
