Every congressional district is affected. Many districts have a military base. McCarthy has both Edwards and China Lake. My bet is that Trump isn’t even returning his calls.
I’m confused about the section 230 thing. As I understand it, it protects tech companies from what third parties (like twitter users or facebook users or advertisers) say. Without those protections, wouldn’t they be liable for any lies Trump tweets or unscrupulous false ads? Isn’t this the life-blood of Trump and the Trump campaign? Wouldn’t it force those companies to better police Trump and colleagues? Isn’t this likely to backfire?
From the WaPo article, “the Senate is expected back in Washington on December 29, and will hold its veto override vote thereafter.” The override deadline is January 3, so Perdue and Loeffler cannot be happy about the timing.
Even in the Senate a supermajority is a pretty big ask given the state of the GOP.
Because what’s good for Twitter and Facebook is good for America.
He also has demanded that the bill include a provision that would repeal a legal shield for social media companies that he has tangled with, a significant legislative change that Republicans and Democrats alike have said is irrelevant to a bill that dictates military policy and has become law for each of the last 60 years.
How brave of him being like Ike for standing up to the unwarranted influence of the military industrial complex. /s
Defunding the military while defending the confederacy and pardoning war criminals is hardly making America great.
The only support he has left from the military is from the war criminals that he just pardoned. Hopefully he doesn’t sent them out on the street to enforce martial law.
Neighbor down the road has been displaying four trump signs and an American flag in his yard for years.
After the election, he took down the American flag and left the signs.
If Congress cannot override Trump, that’s on Congress, House and Senate.
We humans have free will. With all the self-serving, we get sidetracked on that.
And with regard to the House, anyone who sides with Donald ETTD Trump is past being an idiot.
Has it not occurred to him that if they undo Section 230 then Twitter will more than likely have to block every last one of his Tweets?
And refusing to fund defense might be a bad move if you actually want to declare martial law. Just saying.
It’s all about the mayhem.
Eisenhower’s speech warning about the military industrial complex was his finest moment. He may have been the last sane republican president we had and maybe the last.
Trump is probably using the Confederate base name stuff as a cudgel against Republicans as he tries to control the party in the future…the rabid white supremacists don’t want these bases renamed and will see it was a betrayal if Republicans go along with it. Add it to the $2000 payment stuff and it’s clear he’s really trying to hurt Senators and force them to choose him or McConnell. To this point, they have been afraid to go against Trump, and in fear of his base revolting against them…on the even of the GA Senate votes they are going to have to choose which way to go.
If Trump keeps this up, he’ll give the Democrats control of the Senate, so Republicans can’t block everything. Maybe he figures that’s the best way to keep his base angry so he can win in 2024, or at least keep sucking money from them. What all this does do is help divide the Republican party further, which is actually good for the nation, as the faster they implode and something reasonable replaces them the better.
‘Taint necessarily so.
Maggs senses Kevin McCarthy’s unease.
So they will stiff the military.
OK.
Here in California we voted for Biden/Harris with 2/3 of the vote so trumPP/Pence signage and MAGA hats are rare to the point of being non-existent.
I have conservative friends on Facebook leaving for Parler, so maybe Trump is planning to do the same. Trump knows the military will not go along with him to overturn the election, I think that route is closed now…so screwing over the military is just fine with him.
And, yes, right now he’s an agent of chaos, upturning everything without much limit on his powers, and it’s only going to get worse in the next four weeks.
Rural Texas is a different world.
It’s hard to imagine that the loser has become a strategic thinker even with guidance from people like Miller and Meadows. He’s lashing out in every direction hoping something sticks like when you throw a strand of spaghetti on the wall to see if it’s cooked. McConnell, def a strategic thinker, will outmaneuver him, but either way we’re all gonna feel the fallout.
I’ve heard that for many years. My good friend lives in a small red county about 50 miles outside of Dallas, and the stuff she tells me about what her friends and neighbors say about Democrats and our politics is from another planet. Or Fox News.
I guess I should go out and get a nice bottle of wine and watch the shit-show; this is so much better than Netflix.
Putin told Trump to veto the bill.
Trump has no idea why but he will say, “Yes Sir”.
