I’m confused. I thought he loved the men and women in uniform esp. those who kill civilians in Iraq. One thing we can be sure of, he loves the confederacy and the lost cause it represents. Or maybe the EC votes from southern states.

The TPM article makes it sound like renaming military bases is his only, or main objection to the bill. He’s also insisting on a repeal of protections for social media companies as part of the package. Also something about China, but I think this might be the big one. From the NPR article below:

Trump had wanted lawmakers to undo Section 230 of the 1996 Communications Decency Act over his ongoing feud with Twitter and other social media companies. Section 230 provides the legal protection for technology companies over content from third parties and users.

Thank you. I had gone off to find this very thing. Confederate statues, my ass. That’s deflection. It’s this that has his diapers in a twist.

It’s meant as a distraction from something else he’s got in the works for later today or tomorrow.

Yea, I want to see how many Repugs in the House and Senate have the cojones to vote for an override.

True that. There are a millions things he can do to sabotage the government, that would be the government he leads, and the government which Joe B will be responsible for sorting out afterwards.

OT but I saw a guy today wearing a mask with an image of the US flag and an image of the loser in the corner of the flag. The irony of a pic of the loser on a mask is so thick you could choke on it.

It is mostly about Section 230 but by saying it is about the monuments he’s intentionally forcing GOPs in Congress to make a vote that the base will see as an express vote to disrespect southern heritage. Like so many other occasions, this is a tantrum.

I’m enjoying the infighting.

This is what I wonder too. I wouldn’t call it at all likely that the veto gets overridden just because it previously passed with supermajorities.

There is honestly no positive way to spin this for Trump.

Thousands of military families are struggling right now and need to be paid. And Trump decides to Veto the Defense Bill 2 days before Christmas because he hates seeing mean tweets and wants Army bases to keep being named after Confederate traitors?

Future political ambitions will always override loyalty to the country and its citizens. Loyalty to the autocrat or loyal to Americans, tough choice for the invertebrates.

Senate isn’t a problem, it’s the House, where some of those folks, including McCarthy, have already stated that they wouldn’t vote to override a veto, even though they voted for the bill.
