Ed Gallrein — a farmer and a former Navy SEAL who was recruited by President Trump personally to oust Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) — bested the incumbent in the Republican primary for Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District on Tuesday. Its the latest victory for the president in recent weeks as he seeks to assert total dominance…
The Republican Party is nothing more than a loyalty to Donald dumpy party. Its future is more bleak than our Democratic Party, to be honest. 36% approval and no Repub who doesn’t lick their failed leader’s boots has a place. Pathetic. There will be a massive blue wave this fall.
First. That is all. Well, second then!
GOP a confirmed party of pedophiles, pedophile apologists, and people willing to hang out with pedophiles in pursuit of self-enrichment.
How exactly does history-making low approval turn into a magical endorsement ability?
The reckoning in the Repub party will only happen after Dems electorally blow them out of the water this fall. And it’s gonna happen.
Thomas Massie will walk throughout the rest of his life with his head up and his integrity intact. As will Adam Kinzinger, about whom I cannot say enough positive things about.
The only two remaining members of the former Republican party with any dignity.
Thank you Representative Massie.
It had damn well better. This handbasket has no thermostat.
Agree. Even though I disagreed with Massie on most things I sent him ten bucks. Well, now I’ll go back to sending donations to my usual Dem congressional candidate. At some point the trump party will need to become something other than what it currently is. Cult parties never sustain.
Well put. G Elliott Morris, way more in tune to numbers than I, has been describing the overwhelming blue wave that’s starting to build. It’s gonna happen.
Massie was an arrogant jerk and an enemy of progress but his own man and that does count for something these days even if he wasn’t strong enough to leave the party.
Hmmm, wonder if he will take a shot as an independent … bet the odds are rather good on that or at least not shabby.
This just confirms what I already knew. Those Christian Republican voters cannot distinguish between right and wrong, and their low passions guide them to chose evil. No amount of reading the Bible or displaying the 10 Commandments is going to fix that. They might seem nice personally but are evil people.
Yes, Massie lost and he probably knew he was going to. But he’s been one of the advocates for getting the Epstein files out into the light of day. I’m hoping between now and his departure in December, I hope he becomes a major thorn in the side of the First Felon. Massie has nothing to lose now - stop threatening and start doing.
Tomorrow.
It’s a tough call because Kentucky is a closed primary state. If it were an open primary, Massie would have picked up enough independent and Democrat votes to win. There’s several factors at play: GOP votes he would lose from the primary because he’s running as an independent, votes he would gain from independents and Democrats, the fact that it’s an anti-TCF election and he is one of the few Republicans that could be helped by the wave, whether he’s just sick of politics.
ETA: The filing deadline for independent candidates is June 2nd.
When they chose TCF instead of Huckabee or Kasich in 2016, I knew they only wanted worldly power.
Really nuts that Massie stands out as a strong independent voice when he is definitely far right. At this point, I root for anyone who doesn’t kowtow to insane idiot DT.
Interesting. Didn’t realize they had a closed primary. That explains a lot. I wish the few remaining independent minded repubs would run as independents. Massie would pick up lots of indies and probably more than a few Dems. Should he? Yes. Will he?
This is what I would like to understand. Could TPM/JM elaborate on this please? Like what specifically did the “voters” object to re: Massie? Did they NOT want the files released? Or…?
The patient continues his death grip on the rotting corpse of the former Republican Party. The party of Lincoln, Rockefeller, Eisenhower is dead. Even Ronald Reagan couldn’t get nominated in this toxic swamp of bigotry, hate, and malice.
