You’re not confused at all.
Plus, cats LOVE to knock shit off the earth. Who knew gravity still exists is space?!
I’ve read news reports that said a third of Americans believe the “coronavirus was cooked up in a biowarfare lab” theory. Trump’s hardcore base is about a third of Americans, nota bene. So of course he wants to cut the funding.
In reality, coronavirus was a natural mutation that occurred in the Chinese food markets where they had all kinds of wild animals crowded in cages in inhumane conditions. Also a deliberately manufactured virus is a recombinant of DNA-based viruses, whereas corona is an RNA-based entity. (Try explaining that to a MAGA imbecile).
The Chinese actually do have much to explain through their disgusting custom of eating these critters, their suppression of information at the opening stages of the disease, and their trying to exploit the problem by their intelligence agencies sending panic-inducing texts to Americans.
Knowing the precise cause of this plague is a far better survival strategy than groundless nonsense. But Trump’s political survival depends on the latter.
All the more reason for the Dotard to pull its funding.
This alone is reason enough to throw Trump and all of his cronies out on their collective ass.
In its simplest form the scientific method begins with a question based in reasonable science: a hypothesis. The hypothesis is tested by any of the acceptable methods for that pursuit ( usually double blind in medications ) and a conclusion is drawn. If you disprove the hypothesis the effort is given the polite name of ‘negative research’. If you prove it you publish in a better journal and get kudos.
There are different levels. An intended outcome – such as finding a treatment for breast cancer – can be a driver, obviously. What it cannot do is to pre-ordain an answer to a scientific question. That answer comes from the data.
Although I was all for the Impeachment based on Trump’s Ukraine meddling, this makes Ukraine seem like swiping a cookie from a Den Mother.
Schiff and Co. need to talk to some folks…fast.
You mean the way Trump wants to?
Alas.
Not that we needed another reason, but who could disagree with you?
Wherein The Guardian delves into their thesaurus and comes up with an obscure (at least to me) synonym for fight.
Australia called ‘gum stuck to China’s shoe’ by state media in coronavirus investigation stoush
Like the US, Australia is having a row with China over novel coronavirus origins.
Criticising Australia for joining the US in its attacks on China, Hu wrote: “After the epidemic, we need to have more risk awareness when doing business with Australia and also when we send our children to study there.”
“Australia is always there, making trouble. It is a bit like chewing gum stuck on the sole of China’s shoes. Sometimes you have to find a stone to rub it off,” Hu said.
Hu’s comments echo that of China’s ambassador to Australia, Jingye Cheng, who told Australian media at the weekend that pushing for an inquiry could result in a boycott of the country’s goods. “Maybe the ordinary people will say ‘Why should we drink Australian wine? Eat Australian beef?’,” Cheng told the Australian Financial Review.
If Australia is gum stuck to China’s shoe, then what is the USA?
Trump attempts to save face has already gotten thousands of people killed.
That this group was successful in getting funded by NIH shows they are not into BS science. I would bet it was trump defending a pet conspiracy theory peddled by someone at Fox that ended with this group losing funding. I hope they have other sources.
That is the first thing I thought of…
The second thing was the word “dike”.
I guess I’d be careful about this line of argument.
Hundreds of millions of Hindus find the eating of hamburgers to be a “disgusting custom” – plus there are even objective reasons not to farm and consume (so much) beef.
Some Chinese people do eat a lot of things that other people do not. They also make traditional medicines and ostensible cures out of endangered-animal parts. They’ve been doing all this for a very long time. Others have tried to stop them (not in China per se) – and with varying degrees of success.
@ralph_vonholst, you always come up with the best alternative vocabulary. Impressive I must say.
“Stoush”
I’ll hafta see if that’s in a dictionary. Those Aussies are known for a unique form of Englush
The article was in The Guardian, so it’s British, but the word “stoush” was unknown to me. Its a woody word. Not sure I want to use it.
How so?
