Just like they view bombing a school full of little girls as a message to Iran that they will murder Iran’s ability to reproduce in order to end Iran’s civilization, they internalize the random murder of one single white woman in America as a similar civilizational threat.

Less than 20 years earlier, a man on a furlough from the California prison system in the 1970s murdered a police officer under the oversight of then-Gov. Ronald Reagan, who went on to become president in a landslide, with Bush as vice president. At the time, Reagan defended the state’s furlough program, arguing that more than 200,000 people had had successful furloughs from prison, but “obviously you can’t be perfect.”
Yeah, an early example of Teflon Ron. All 50 states had furlough programs. A prisoner behaves, doesn’t cause any damage with the officers and does their rehabilitation and education programs they get a furlough, usually to work at the governor’s mansion or other facility or in their community.

When it comes right down to it, most people and especially Republicans and especially Trump supporters only vote on a few issues, God, Guns, Gays, and above all Race. Issues of Foreign policy and most domestic economics means little to how most Americans and especially Republicans and especially MAGA votes.
If you ever talk to Trump supporters about the murder of George Floyd they will tell you “he had it coming” and will make up reasons why. That is they justify Floyd’s murder for reasons not related to why Floyd was murdered.
The point is Floyd being black to MAGA means it is okay for police to murder him.
Or to put another way, as I keep saying, Donald Trump did not crate his base but his base created Donald Trump. Or to put still another way, the best salesmen merely sell people what they want to buy and that is exactly what Trump is doing by doubling down on racism, xenophobia, religious bigotry, misogyny and gay bashing.
I mean this message is how Republicans since Ronald Reagan have won elections from President to Senate and Congress to dog catcher. Sometimes it works which explains both of Trump’s victories and sometimes other issue cause enough to vote economics or foreign policy.
And that is the question for the Mid-terms: will God, Guns, Gays and Race, all of which is about screwing the other guy instead of helping yourself, work this time as it did in 2024 or will it be like 2020 where other factors influence enough people to vote their own bests interests instead of screwing someone else.

The original Willie Horton was employed at a time when the public was stuffed with underground racism. It was a gift to capture the “Reagan Democrats,” AKA blue collar types with huge resentments toward blacks.
