Do you realize how close the word ‘coronation’ is to ‘coronathon’?
Two super-spreader events at the same time and by the same people means we can call the Republicans “Covidians” now.
The convention in Jacksonville will be held from Aug 23 to Aug 27th. Great timing.
On Aug. 27, 1960, a mob of 200 white people in Jacksonville, Fla. – organized by the Ku Klux Klan and joined by some of the city’s police officers – chased and beat peaceful civil rights protesters who were trying to integrate downtown lunch counters. The bloody carnage that followed – in which ax handles and baseball bats were used to club African Americans, who sought sanctuary in a church – is remembered as “Ax Handle Saturday.”
So will the RNC make attendees sign a “You Can’t Sue Trump” waiver if they contract COVID-19?
Can they book Trump in a nice nursing home? He can decompensate for hiding his dementia. Also , no reporting of cases means he’ll be safe!
Of course. They’ve already done that for the upcoming Tulsa rally.
OMG - this is AWESOME.
Why book him in a nursing home when he can stay at home in Mar-A-Lago? They’ll just reclassify it as a residential care business, so it will all be legal for him to vote from there.
Conventus-Interruptus.
This convention mess would be a lot funnier if we didn’t have to live in the same country with the guy. Really kind of a buzzkill when you think about it.
Sir, Florida welcomes you, and Floridians are ready to stand together, tightly packed, maskless, to show fealty to you and, if God’s will it be, die for you.
Seriously this is the political equivalent of drunken teen canal night-swimming. A gator may get you or you may get away with it, but you’re giving the gator the best opportunity it could possibly ask for.

It will be interesting to see exactly what “business” is conducted in NC compared to FL. I’ve been thinking this might be a scheme to allow nervous delegates to do their thing in NC under social distancing guidelines to make sure they show up at all. I read somewhere that states like Indiana are having trouble getting their R delegates to commit to the convention instead of sending alternates, or just finding volunteers. They’re afraid of the virus, and many of them are older folks.
Then Trump can hold his big coronation event in FL with local yahoos and whatever delegates and guests are nuts enough to attend, while the rest hunker down in NC or go home. Trump and the bigwigs will no doubt be inside a large Plexiglas screen with forced air to keep them safe for the speeches.
Going to be interesting to see how the folks on the rules committee handle this. Because you might end up without a quorum in either venue unless you write things carefully. Of course, it’s unlikely that anyone would challenge, or that a challenge would be acknowledged by the chair, but pr disasters have been made of less.
I am also predicting that either trump speaks to his packed crowd by video link (they have him on a jumbotron anyway, so it’s not as if the figure are the podium is particulalry visible) or that they set up the grandfather of all air-handling systems on the dias so that he doesn’t have to breathe any of the molecules that might have been contaminated by his fans.
@rucleare, @playitagainrowlf, you have one simple mission, destroy the Jacksonville Convention Center’s air conditioning system on the morning of the event.
Remember … the people who only work at that facility in Jacksonville and who will be there to make the arena work for the conventioneers are at risk as well.
They don’t deserve this.
So, more “revisionist History” from Republican assholes: “Not only is Florida his HOME STATE…”
Sigh…and the rubes will lap it up.
From his BIO: “Trump was born and raised in Queens, a borough of New York City, and received a bachelor’s degree in economics from the Wharton School. He took charge of his family’s real-estate business in 1971, renamed it The Trump Organization, and expanded its operations from Queens and Brooklyn into Manhattan.”
Yep. Sounds like a NATIVE SON OF FLORIDA TO ME!
I didn’t need to see that.
