This is obvious to any kid who has watched patrolling male Death Valley pupfish defending their tiny empires and harems. i’m not sure what unelected co-president Elon expects, but he probably should avoid getting in Trump’s face. And vice versa. Mafiosi swear an absolute loyalty to their gang. But who runs the gang? If Elon explicitly claims leadership, he has to deal with all the other jilted oligarchs like Steve Schwarzman, not just Trump. Schwarzmann, as head of Blackstone, has an implicit interest in financial market stability. That’s going to be difficult in deregulated markets that lets a few get all the marbles.

You the taxpayer pick up the tab for all the lung disease that people will be suffering from later in life because as kids they got lured into smoking milk and cookies flavored vapes.
But the ways things are going, it is increasingly likely that the only taxpayer-provided help to those people will be in assisted dying. Disposal included.

No, they’re not going to help with that either - Rs, particularly the evangelicals, are reliably against assisted dying.

I keep thinking of the Santayana quote about those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. I think a lot of what is going on today is some combination of social programs working -too- well and a terrible communication history from our government. The memory of what old age was like for many before medicare is totally lost. And our government has done a lousy job of communicating the benefits of programs. Regulation? Who needs it…I guess we’ll have to experience another Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire…
