The Last Hurrah was a mid 50s novel about a veteran democratic big city mayor not making it as the demographics turned against him and the old tools just didn’t quite work enough. Blood draw was mentioned, but maybe getting IV treatment for something or prevention of something (COVID-19?). I have had terrible bruising from a single bad attempt at inserting a needle for a drip, and that was when I was 40. Mitch is no spring chicken (did the article say he was 87?).

While it is true that Pelosi’s intentions were honorable, nevertheless what she did was known at the time to be inadvisable – and known on the Hill.
Trump’s comments on the matter are nowhere near honorable. What else is new?

But Seriously: His hands look like he has had a recent round of radiation treatment for something, and/or he is on some serious blood thinners.
My 93 year-old father had hands that looked like that just before he passed, due to the powerful blood thinners he was on. It contributed to his dementia too, making it much worse due to the brain bleeds it caused. He was put on these medications because of multiple minor strokes he was having due to a clotting issue due to low plasma volume.

Looks like McConnell had some oral surgery, perhaps a gruesome root canal or implant. They ran an IV in back of hands for anesthesia and meds. IV in the right hand leaked. He doesn’t want to talk about it. I wouldn’t either.
