Seems to me we’re watching the power of social media at work. Trump, et al can purchase all the stupid Facebook ads they want and target them as Zuckerberg and company are selling without one whit of responsibility in terms of propagating lies.
However, social media also is very likely helping get out the vote among people who don’t give a rat’s ass about Facebook inasmuch as they are probably working two jobs to get by and don’t have time for time wasting about some friend’s friend’s bullshit photo of a caterpillar eating a walrus or some such. Door to door canvassing augmented by Snapchat and such are going to have a yuge impact, and are likely playing a big role now among millenials who are learning just how easy it is to vote, while learning that good things can happen if they do pay attention and actually vote in their own best interest instead of being distracted by emotional issues.
JBE has been on top of the polling since the election began. Now that we are in the run off (because LA has a really weird jungle primary ), his lead is smaller, but he has been consistently on top regardless.
Its going to be a tight race, but its certainly not an uphill fight for Edwards.
Let me see if I understand this request!
Trump needs 3 million in 24 hours. If he gets it he’ll authorize a special TRIPLE-MATCH for all donations!
That means Trump will pay 3 dollars for everyone one dollar donated!
I wonder how many uneducated, unemployed rubes will fall for it and donate?
I mean, he’s the incumbent fighting to keep his seat, and failing to get past fifty percent was quiet a disappointment. IIRC he didn’t have the expected turnout in some key areas and demographics during the primary. Maybe he’ll improve this time, but I just feel safer to lower my expectations.
I get RNC stuff all the time because my mother in law is a trumpie cultist. I’ve never responded to them so they obviously have access to her email address because others in the family also receive them.
In the 80’s I once subscribed to a high-end magazine. After that I got free trial subscriptions to a:
fox hunting magazine (I’m a vegetarian animal rights nut)
and
the Heritage Foundation Newsletter
and
many appeals to become part of “Concerned Women for America” - then nascent in it’s Conservative cradle.
Honestly, I have to think at least several of them would rather spend 2020 running against President Pelosi then being forced to constantly defend Trump.
The nature of the human mind indicates that some addictions require a person to hit the lowest rock bottom before the admission they need a change really outs.
Republicans have given every indication they are in this process, and that nothing looks more attractive to them than Benadick Donnie two scoops.
I have to confess that I have mixed feelings about this. If the donated dollars are, in fact, going to help Trump, that’s a bad thing. But most of these fundraisers are grifters, and are pocketing the bulk of the money. So what’s happening is that the rubes’ money is being siphoned off and isn’t helping Trump at all. I find that acceptable.
I really don’t know what that early voting enthusiasm means. I’ve been part of campaigns where absentee voting went strongly for the Dems, who still lost. Is there any empirical evidence that this is a predictor? And is this early voting or absentee voting? (To my mind there is a difference. I’m only surprised that LA offers it.)
How on EARTH did the RNC have so much money to dump into the race after buying up all Don Jr. ‘book’ to pass out at rallies and make him #1 on NYTimes ‘bestseller’ list???
