It’s caging. An old trick to disenfranchise voters. Respond back but also check with the county that you’re still registered.

I keep wondering about the change (last year I believe) by which mail will no longer receive a postmark when dropped off or retrieved from a post office mail-drop but instead when it begins automated processing. I wouldn’t put it past the fuckers to disqualify hundreds of thousands of ballots across the country based on bogus or simply nonexistent postmark data.

More Democrats may vote by mail than Republicans, but it’s complicated by the fact that more voters over the age of 65 vote by mail, and that group tends to lean Republican. Any vote suppression scheme based only on postmark data is going to disqualify Republican votes too. So I’m not expecting anyone to try this.

Oh, my untested criminal mind immediately thought of a way around this. Only mail from specific zip codes will have a high rate of skipped or unreadable postmarks. Rural west Texas ballots will get a postmark 15 seconds after the customer departs the branch. Nearly 15% of the ballots in central Dallas may never receive one, with the number peaking in the week approaching Election Day.

Okay, but criminal is the right word! Unless this is somehow authorized by the State government and passes through court challenges, it’s mail fraud if any postal employee does it. Tampering with the US mail is punishable by fines and jail time, which is why it almost never happens.

I agree, but they are setting up a system where - as just described in the new TPM article - failure can be a winning objective. It would not be as straightforward as what I came up within a few seconds. It will be a “system” by which ballots in areas the regime knows they will fare badly are taken out of the equation (never executed) or rejected due to some other systematic technicality they’ve constructed. Joe and Judy in the processing room never have to touch a single ballot; the illegality will be hardwired into the system.
