I fully expect the Trumpster Fire to desperately try to claw back the spotlight from the Impeachment Hearings by announcing, with much bluster and shouting, that he is withdrawing the US from NATO (fulfilling Valdimir Putin’s wet dream.)

One of the requests involved allowing Republicans to call in their own witnesses, citing specifically House Intelligence Committee ranking member Devin Nunes (R-CA), who was just further implicated in the evolving Ukraine scandal early last week.
I’m pretty sure that ol’ Dev isn’t too keen to testify under oath.

Trying to create the impression among low information voters that the White House had no chance to make their case. It is stupid, but the Democrats should consider an empty chair testimony day. For a lot of people the symbol will get through, While they may tune out of verbal statements.

Trump misrepsents Ukrainian president’s Time interview
Speaking to reporters before he left for London, Trump falsely claimed the Ukrainian president had cleared him of wrongdoing in a recent interview with Time magazine.
So, now the whole world knows that Trump is gaslighting Ukraine, and the Ukrainians appear to be getting pissed.
“The Ukrainian president came out and said very strongly that President Trump did absolutely nothing wrong. That should be case over,” Trump told reporters. “But it will never end it because [Democrats] want to do what they want to do.”
In reality, Volodymyr Zelenskiy criticized Trump for holding up Ukraine’s military assistance and said that the US president had harmed his country’s economic propsects by calling it corrupt.

Why anyone listens to Mark Penn anymore is beyond me.
Also, repeating Clinton’s anti-impeachment strategy only works if Trump had been spending the time since the 2018 midterms trying to govern and work with the Democrats. Now, it just looks like blatant distraction from impeachment.

Reminds me of a conversation in the movie, The Red Violin, where the wife of a famous violin maker visits a tarot card reader who tells her (wife) she is going to go on a ‘long journey’. The wife is excited about the possibility of adventure but the ‘long journey’ turns out to be that the wife dies soon after. Just sayin’.

He’ll likely announce that he’s cutting the US contribution to NATO. For Trump, bad publicity/distraction is better than no publicity/distraction.
