Thursday saw dueling hearings related to President Trump’s push to deploy National Guard troops in blue states that don’t want them there. In a San Francisco courtroom, a 9th Circuit Court of Appeals panel dominated by Trump appointees sounded so amenable to his case that a certain familiar reporter wondered whether the arguments were doubling…
And….. Letitia James was actually indicted this afternoon. Scenes from the coming chaos and destruction all around us…..
Yes.
I’m very fond of Boots and happy I’m sharing a home with him.
I have one, too. Sorry; no photo. (yet)
"it’s also driven by, to some degree, what’s going on behind the scenes, and you don’t have full view into that.”
The judge doesn’t have a view to the daily status of the city, which Trump doesn’t have either, so the judge’s ruling is solely based on faith that the federal government is wiser beyond all.
That’s not just wrong as a practical presumption; it’s also why we broke from a king.
So, in Cat News, after spending an hour cutting down bushes trying to find the crying cat, my mom finally looked up:
She calls the electric company, they come out eventually, and the guy pulls out a long pole and starts swinging at the cat. My mom screemed and pulled out her phone, the lineman panicked and starting saying, “don’t record me, turn that off!” My dear mother, she didnt get a chance to film the guy but the threat was enough. They shut off the power for the neighborhood, and got the cat down with a cherry picker.
Then the cat returned home, which turned out to be a few blocks away. She has been missing for two days. Her people were ecstatic.
In other news, a cougar was spotted in my mom’s neighborhood.
Your mom is my new hero !
I have two ginger boys, and they’re very precious.
I’m not a fan of cats. All of them in my life since I was a child have been nasty SOBs who scratched the shit out of me, bit me, and sprayed foul odors everywhere, so I’m a little tired of this. Just saying.
Say now… that sounds like cat hater talk to me ! l/s ![]()
And the appellate court is not a finder of fact, so their opinion is not informed by anything other than the result they want to reach.
Contrast the two arguments. The 9th Circuit is all for giving deference to the president, the all-seeing, all-knowing, almighty gold-plated unitary executive, unencumbered by visible facts on the ground.
Judge April Perry called referring to the city’s protests as a “rebellion” — one of the criteria for sending in the Guard under Title 10, the law the administration has cited — “audacious”…
“What if the DHS folks are not tethered to reality? Does that matter?”
Judge Perry, the finder of facts in Chicago, is questioning what DHS knows, without questioning what unknowable circumstances may lurk ‘behind the scenes’. Is it the President who is declaring a rebellion on every street corner (in select places), or is it DHS? Or is there a rebellion (a potentially knowable fact)?
the level of deference that I think the president is entitled to in these circumstances
Claiming that anyone who acts like TRUMP deserves deference is beyond the pale. Obviously this guy is burnishing his MAGAt credentials.
“Chuck Schumer and the Democrats are preventing your family from getting the care they need, not Republicans, and my heart goes out to you,” he said.
Eventually maybe these MAGAts will learn that not everyone is as stupid and beholding to a total ASSHOLE as they are.
Katie Porter is being attacked by someone on the left who wants at best a Republican Lite governor. Why does she have to win over any of TRUMPs stupid MAGAt voters. IF the Democrats stand united (understood that that is NOT typical behavior for them) they can’t defeat any Democrat. This is all posturing for the case where it is two Democrats running for CA governor.
And the Nobel Peace Prize has gone to a brown skinned woman ! This is going to BURN the Orange Idiot ! And she’s the leader of the Venezuelan opposition ! Well deserved and so “ in your face “ by the prize committee !
I sure hope the Dotard in Chief doesn’t do something typically deranged, like nuke Greenland, in “vengeance.”
His grabbiness in pursuing the Peace Nobel is suspiciously like his recent pandering to Gawd to get into Heaven. Yeah, after a life of fully indulging in every sin on the “Deadly” list, toss a few pennies into the collection basket. That’s all it takes, amirite??
I’m sorry you never got to experience one of their better sides. Cats can be unbelievably awful. For cat people, that’s part of their charm. Yeah, there’s something wrong with many of us.
I’m tempted to contribute a few of my bad experiences with dogs, such as being attacked, bitten and at the hospital here in Belize a few months ago. But to each their own…. And as you say the bad behavior of cats is part of their charm. I’m sure that the words I say the most often daily are “ You horrible cats ! “.
Yes. Steven Cheung has already released a nasty statement criticizing the committee for "[placing] politics over peace. Meanwhile, Machado has released a statement referring to the work she has been doing behind the scenes with the Trump administration (the State Dept.) – which should come as no surprise since then-Senator Marco Rubio (along with Sen. Rick Scott) formally recommended to the committee that she be award the Nobel Peace Prize in 2024.
Consistency in its foreign policy is not a hallmark of the Trump administration.
