Trump Mad Over Pledge Of Allegiance Fight | Talking Points Memo

President Donald Trump couldn’t help but turn red (white and blue) Tuesday morning upon hearing about a Minneapolis suburb’s city council decision to nix the Pledge of Allegiance from its meetings.

Trump may be mad at Fox News, but I see they are still his closest advisor…

Trump’s tweet came shortly after Fox & Friends aired a segment on the [Monday night protests] at the St. Louis Park City Council chambers for deciding to do away with the pledge.

What a weird coincidence

The President just watches TV all day, everybody knows it, and it’s not even weird anymore.

First…Trump has to be able to SAY the Pledge, unprompted, on the WH lawn in front of the cameras. No airports or ramming of parts!

What standing does Trump have here? He hates American rule of law. He hates “one nation”

Maybe he can write a new version that also says “Merry Christmas” - you know, the phrase that if uttered during the holiday season will get you a one-way ticket to a CIA black site in Albania.

I, for one, salute Trump for focusing on important issues like this. Not getting caught up in silly things like drug prices or the Chinese Global Warming Hoax.

Well, the vote was 5-0 so there wasn’t a great deal of dissension when the vote was taken. However, if “… hundreds of people calling or emailing the city to protest” then have someone come in right before the meeting, say the Pledge and whoever doesn’t want to acknowledge it can remain seated. Next problem on the agenda?

If a terrorist ever plants a nuclear device under the White House, you can bet the first thing he does in public after setting the timer is recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Yeah. I mean fucking seriously. A bunch of adults have to recite The Pledge of Allegiance as part of some invented Roberts Rules before they can proceed and hold a fucking city council meeting? Does Trump’s Cabinet recite The Pledge of Allegiance like they all had to go aroud the table and say what a wonderful thing it was to serve in his fucking Cabinet?

As far as I am concerned Trump embracing the flag counts as desecration.

When I was in maybe 2nd grade (1971? at the peak of the Vietnam war protests) somebody felt necessary to make a school play about someone desecrating the flag, and about to get lynched by a mob of “patriots”. Even then I could not understand why there was so much fuzz over a piece of cloth.

But now the flag worshipers have allowed their beloved flag to be hijacked by Trump, when Trump blows up in a shit storm they going to have a hard time taking off those stains from their flag.

Yep, we will all have a lot of cleaning up to do…

It was disquieting to feel such power in the hands of so unbalanced a being.

A few questionable parts of the Pledge:

  1. Pledging allegiance to a flag … or to a Republic
  2. One nation
  3. Under god
  4. Indivisible
  5. Liberty and Justice for All

Doesn’t seem to apply to much of what I’m seeing.
