Trump Is Using ‘Classical Architecture’ as ‘A Dog Whistle for White Nationalists’

I’m so, so tired of Columbia University. Democrats lose votes every time professors there are quoted in the news media.

And the poor bastard just can’t get any respect for his design choices. Sad.

My bad. You are correct. It’s south Lake Shore Drive to Jackson Park. South Shore Drive is an artery from 75th Street to about 95th Street.

I don’t subscribe to Talking for identity politics screeds about architecture. Even worse, this one is labeled “News”, which it clearly is not. Do better, editor.

I feel like the next dem admin should do a huge Ctrl+Z and demo the ballroom, dig up the paving at the rose garden and pulverize and stupid arch that this tinpot bozo erects. just gone… or perhaps wait till the prosecutions of everyone possible in this band of dipshits… THEN raze it all.

The new WH ballroom should be referred to as the Marie Antoinette Memorial Ballroom.

Repeatedly.

I’ve been advocating for turning it into a DC Homeless Shelter, but many of the reports I’ve been reading say that it’s doubtful this monstrosity will be finished by 2028, the way these big projects go. Especially with all the National Security features that have to be included.

If it’s only half completed by 2028 – which seems likely – then it will be much easier for a Democratic administration to just cancel the whole thing and restore the East Wing facade. We just have to make sure that happens.

Surely these projects have architects, right? Why do we never see them identified? Rose Garden, Ballroom, Arch? Who are the licensed interior designers putting the gold plastic things on the walls? In better times we’ll want to know who not to hire.

Yes, we use to have a beautiful WH. Now, this convicted felon intends to build a 90K sf ballroom addition which is almost twice the size of the traditional existing classical structure of 50K sf…

.I detest him.

He is destroying the beauty & architectural proportions of the WH. Just an eyesore ..it will look like a VFW hall. …smdh

Powerful leaders throughout history, from Napoleon to Louis XIV, have called upon architects to construct imposing, enduring physical manifestations of their political projects, Wilson of Columbia pointed out.

“Adolf Hitler had Albert Speer, right?”

Mussolini’s Italian architecture echoed ancient Roman aesthetics “to portray the regime as the rightful heir to the imperial Glory Hole

I agree on it not being done by 2028… I’m an architect (albeit not one who regularly works on civic scale projects - sometimes campus scale, so comparable) and just don’t see how this thing is even remotely done by 2028. I may be proven wrong, but who knows… maybe trump the master builder knows something about architecture that I don’t… but somehow, I don’t think so, and given the Nat Sec (Führerbunker, anyone?) features you note, I think even more likely not to work out by the end of his term… maybe the reaper’s bony fingers will grasp those burger-grease clogged arteries before then also? who knows… maybe he never sees it even beyond a hole in the ground?
