A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Republican Senators Try to Patch Things Up With the President Even by our fully debased standard of grading President Donald Trump on a curve, yesterday was a rolling catastrophe of astonishing political blunders. Not even the kind that seem…
First. What wondrous happenings will greet us today?
I have got to give Senate Republicans credit for 1 thing.
They have fully lost their dignity, they know they have fully lost their dignity, and they are genuinely into rolling with that full loss of dignity.
Full-reflection-debasement no problem for them, may be even into it. I have never met anyone with that capability, ever, and there in the Senate exist more than 50 that can continuously do so.
“There’s never been an age like this.” From Trump’s lips to God’s ears.
He really does live in his own little world, doesn’t he? I’m also gratified to learn that there really is voter fraud in this country; too bad it’s a MAGAT who did it. And just so these folks know, embryos are not “children” or “babies.” Please make it stop. 86 47
Usurping the wildly popular and well-done A Capitol Fourth’s concert and fireworks on July 4th and forcing them to have a concert on July 3rd with fireworks launched from Mt. Vernon and not visible in DC, what appears to be the stage for his concert on July 4th and fireworks.
However, this looks like a rather permanent structure being installed. Without permission or planning.
It’s kinda fun having these morning memos in the morning!
Happy Bomb Pop Day everyone! Some history:
The Bomb Pop itself dates to 1955. D.S. “Doc” Abernethy and James S. Merritt of Merritt Foods created it in Kansas City, Missouri. Its six-finned shape was deliberately modeled after a bomb or rocket—very much a product of the early Cold War and Space Age—and the original red, white and blue layers were cherry, lime and blue raspberry.
Heather & Paul:
“Golden age,” says the guy caught supergluing gold crap to the Oval Office walls.
Between that and the “drain create the swamp” thing, the metaphors are really piling up.
Excerpts
Gasoline prices have climbed significantly since the war in Iran began, with average prices exceeding $5 a gallon in seven states. Oil prices have risen by approximately 35 percent, contributing to broader increases in energy costs.
According to Moody’s Analytics, the surge has imposed an estimated $100 billion burden on American consumers, averaging nearly $750 a household.
Gallup reported that 67 percent of respondents said fuel costs have caused financial hardship for their families, a figure comparable to levels seen in 2022 after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine sent gas prices soaring.
Lower-income Americans appear to be bearing the greatest burden. Among respondents earning less than $50,000 annually, 77 percent reported experiencing hardship due to fuel costs, including 28 percent who said the impact was severe.
I wonder what happens to TSF’s psyche as he fails at one project after another - not the policy stuff (he doesn’t care about that), but the pit in the ground where the East Wing once stood, the barren Ellipse, the fenced off Reflecting Pool, the digging for his arch, and the facade of the Kennedy Center. DC not only isn’t at its finest for the 250th celebration; it’s a series of ruined structures surrounded by construction fences, tarps, and debris. Add to that the refusal of musicians to play at his parties or even let their music be played by others, and numerous states declining to participate in the “50 state fair”, and the complete humiliation of TSF is nearly complete. Maybe he’ll stroke out.
A little more on the Catholic speaker -
So besides his role in “teaching” religion on FauxSnooze and elsewhere, he also announced on air his upcoming nuptials at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in NY
Pete Hegseth was among the guests at the wedding.
It was covered by the NYT.
I’ve seen those - it was a long time ago.
Trump proves daily that he is an irredeemable, ignorant, lying, self-centered, piece of shit. Why would anyone think otherwise? Listening to him talk for one minute should be proof enough that the man is completely off his rocker. And yet so many in government continue to genuflect to him. May they never free themselves from the stench of enabling him. And the people who continue to support him clearly have no critical thinking skills and are blinded by their worst instincts. Will we ever be able to recover from the Trump era?

They build a stage on the mall every year for the fourth. Not permanent.
Fingers crossed.![]()
I think we can, but only if/when something like 80% of us can agree his fascism is fascism. Should be easy, but apparently there are far more fascists than I ever would have believed.
Move ‘em all to Red states and count ‘em in the census!
