A lot of things happened. Here are some of the things. This is TPM’s Morning Memo. Sign up for the email version. Clean Up On Aisle 47 Before we get into the latest legal developments in the wide-ranging effort to defend the rule of law and the constitutional order against President Trump’s attacks, a quick word on…
I found this really clarifying, and terrifying. But it gives some clarity to the onslaught and disorienting nature of this frantic, initial push by the regime.
and…
Overnight, the Justice Department had to file two separate corrections in pending court cases to clean up misstatements of fact they made to federal judges in open court. It’s an excruciating thing for any lawyer to have to do, but especially for the Justice Department which has prided itself on being a reliable narrator and has earned, for better or worse, the benefit of the doubt in federal court.
Those are LIES. They LIED on their filing. Please call it what it is.
The impact and significance of the
admitted errorsLIES isn’t entirely clear yet, but they undermine the Justice Department’s credibility and make it clear to the judges involved that these are not careful, considered, prudent government actions that deserve to be treated as regular or normal.
FIFY, David. We need to call them what they are.
They also lied to the judge in open court. It is disgraceful.
I wonder if the DOJ people filing these lawsuits KNOW there are errors, and are submitting them intentionally to sabotage the effort. Passive-aggressive action by DOJ lawyers.
It’s nice seeing RFRA utilized in a good way for a change.
It’s worth noting that according to WaPo, Big Ballz is only being given new roles, not news roles.

It’s just as likely that DOJ are being lied to by their client, and have not had time, or have not been able, to fact check.
Would be nice if those making the claims, live and in court before a judge, would lose their lawyer licenses and the Bar association dismiss them.
But it won’t happen.
I will ask that all references to Bari Weiss include the descriptor, “Bari Weiss, former NYT columnist and card-carrying member of the media elite.”
“Bari Weiss, former NYT columnist and card-carrying member of the media elite, did the administration’s bidding and ratted out PBS.”
Patel may have perjured himself in his confirmation hearing, regarding whether he knew about FBI firings. Not that this will stop the R’s from confirming him, because what’s a little perjury among friends, right? NYT Liveblog:
The top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday accused Kash Patel, President Trump’s nominee for F.B.I. director, of improperly directing a wave of firings at the bureau before being confirmed.
In a letter to the Justice Department’s inspector general, Senator Richard J. Durbin of Illinois cited “highly credible information from multiple sources” that suggested Mr. Patel had been personally involved in covertly orchestrating a purge of career officials at the F.B.I.
“This alleged misconduct is beyond the pale and must be investigated immediately,” Mr. Durbin wrote to the independent inspector general, Michael E. Horowitz.
The accusation comes as the committee prepares to vote Thursday on whether to send Mr. Patel’s nomination to the Senate floor. Mr. Durbin said that if the allegations were true, then the acting No. 2 at the Justice Department, Emil Bove, fired career civil servants “solely at the behest of a private citizen,” and also that Mr. Patel “may have perjured himself” at his confirmation hearing last month.
Trump is completely out of control. I have my doubts that the courts can or will put restraints on Trump, because we do not have a Congress willing to uphold the law.
What shall we make of this? Bear in mind, she’s protected by the speech and debate clause.
Bryant denied the accusations in a statement to the Associated Press. “I categorically deny these allegations. I take this matter seriously and will cooperate fully with any necessary legal processes to clear my name,” Bryant said.
Mace also criticized the South Carolina attorney general, Alan Wilson, for failing to prosecute the men after she presented evidence to authorities. “Did South Carolina’s attorney general have any of these predators indicted after being provided clear cut-and-dry evidence including video, photos and witnesses?” Mace asked.
In a statement following Mace’s speech, Wilson’s office called the congresswoman’s accusations against the attorney general “categorically false” and “politically motivated”. Wilson and Mace are both considering running for South Carolina governor in 2026.
Perjury is so 2024. Patel will still be confirmed and then the fireworks will really get started.
Pop a Zoloft.
OK, time to read Morning Memo …
Their sloppiness may be our salvation.
